I wonder why it never occured to them to have Uhura be the first officer on the Reliant. She'd definitely recognize Khan.

You mean no-one gave a shit about the movie, or the character?

I thought he was asking why Starfleet didn't put Uhura on the Reliant. ::shrug::

The better question would be "How did the federation didn't noticed the explosion of Ceti alpha 6?
Was the Ceti Alpha system inside Federation space? It's possible that they dumped Khan on a planet outside of their boarders and simply forgot about him. It's possible that a system event like the destruction of Ceti Alpha Six passed unnotice. If the star blew, and the Feddies didn't notice, I be ashamed of them. But a planet, in a quadrant of billions and trillions of planets might blow up without being noticed.
Well inside Federation space. Alpha Ceti (or Mirak, as the star is named in the Bayer Catalogue) is located only 56 lightyears from Earth. It's the prime star of the constellation Cetus and should be a well known and observed system given its location within the Cygnus Loop, as our local stellar neighbourhood is known by, and further by the fact that it lies well within a 100LY radius from Earth.

Was the helmsman of the Reliant supposed to be Khan's son? Joachim, I think his name was.

Joachim was his aide. Way too old to have been Khan's son by Marla McGivers, he was part of the original Botany Bay complement.

I thought he might have been a son because he argued with Khan, and also his character's name was listed as Joachim Singh in IMDB.

There are other possbilities. Joachim might have been his son by a prior relationship. He might have been adopted. Khan might call the members of his entourage his children. He might have been genetically engineered using Khan's DNA.
