Kobayashi Maru
What does "Kobayashi Maru" translate from Japanese?
I googled without success.

Just another example that you can find anything on the net.
which is a website apparently devoted to translating Japanese references in Star Trek.
Taken from: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~VZ4S-KUBC/ejdic.htmlKobayashi Maru (n) (from "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
Transliteration of Hiragana: ko-ba-ya-shi-ma-ru
Rough pronunciation: koh-bah-yah-shi-mah-roo
Note: Kobayashi is a common family name. Maru is a suffix that indicates ship's name.

Well, it seems pretty simple then. The Kobayashi part came from some family, and Maru was added because the ship that Starfleet captains have to use in the simulation is a merchant vessel IIRC.

It's about where the name of the ship came from and what it means.Lord Pounder wrote:The ship in the senario was called the Kobayashi Maru. You guys say that a Japanese family name and a suffix attached to the end of a Japanese merchant vessel. LOGIC PREVAILS AGAIN.
Not what the name was.
