How about a series that doesn't center around the Federation? Why can't we follow a crew of Maqui or a completely new species in the Delta Quadrant facing extermination at the hands of the Borg?
I actually think that might make a good mini-series. Focuses somewhat on the Borg and the civilizations they have conquered. This of course would include Guinan's race, with hopefully Whoopi Goldberg making a guest appearance. Write good storylines, like family seperation, reunion, hopelessness, etc. Throw in some actual emotion, while highlighting the Borg's superiority(everyone likes a powerful bad guy). In this case, the bad guy wins, but if done right it could make for an excellent backstory on the evolution of the Borg and how they came to be, while perhaps(with my help) addressing any questions about their nature and capabilties. :)

But that would probably be fan wanking by any definition. 8)

A series showing how the Borg came to be would be facinating- did someone create them by tinkering with cybernetic implants? Were the Borg themselves perhaps a race of cybernetic slaves for another race, who broke free and took over?

When I first saw the Borg ("QWho") I thought they were the Federation's future. I mean, they look like humans with cybernetic implants; hell, they even have human babies.

Of course, subsequent episodes have proven me wrong, and the Borg are nothing more than technological zombies/vampires.

Still, it would have been an interesting angle to pursue. Ah well.

I must contact Paramount and demand(and rightfully so as the biggest Borg fan in existence) that such a mini-series(or perhaps full one) be considered.

Imagine: One of the first races the Borg go up against deploys a massive battlestation with firepower in the planetary destruction range. The cube shrugs it off of course, with thousands of other cubes filling the screen. A few hundred using tractor beams tear a planet apart, being highly rich in material to construct future Borg facilities, like the Primary Unicomplex, etc. Borg drones bitchslap personnel opponents that make modern marines look like pussies. KE shielding is deployed, but only after a significant delay with explanations on why it's not commonly used.

*fan wanking!*

I do believe I made a mess on my keyboard...

If I were in charge of Paramount, I would cut Berman and Braga a checkand let them go. Then I'd put Star Trek on the shelf for a decade or so, no new series or movies, and let fan interest build back up. In the interim, I'd consider finding a new franchise, give an unknown or two a chance. After a 10 to 15-year break, I'd put the word out that I will hear pitches about a new Star Trek series, with a few requirements:
1. It's set in the 25th Century.
2. It's has a continuing storyline, and continuity with the other series.
3. It has a point of view.
4. The characters are ordinary people.
5. No Treknobabble.

actually, i read in the trek chronology the other day that roddenberry joked about how the machine planet in the VGer cloud may have been the very first borg civilization.

That planet couldn't have been the first Borg planet since the Borg had assimilated a handful of races about 900 year ago as stated in Voyager era(ref: STVOY "Dragon's Teeth"). Since V'ger(Voyager probe) was launched significantly after this time period, the planet it encountered couldn't have been the first Borg world, unless some type of time travel was involved.

The problem with doing a Borg mini-series is that they've been pussified beyond all recognition. Such a series would have to break with a ton of already-established canon precedent on the Borg's utter stupidity. While it would be interesting and cool if written well, good writing would almost necessitate that it fly in the face of consistency.

I'm just sick of hearing about the Federation. Everyone except the Federation is one-dimensional with absolutely no depth at all. Klingons are barbaric retards, Romulans are sneaky bastards and Vulcans are all logical. There's almost no individuality in any race except humans; all other races are simply stereotypes, and that's just fucking boring.

Hell, you know what would be cool? A mini-series about the Ferengi. Hell, just ditch the spacefaring angle entirely and we can see what the life of a Ferengi day trader with a wife and family is like. Anything but the same old crap we've been getting.

I personally wouldn't mind another Federation based series, so long as it doesn't take the focus of the damn bridge crew. Why not have the point of view be from ordinary crewmembers? And all these plots about the fate of humanity resting on the lone shoulders of some stoic Captain, is getting boring. Do we really need:

Logical Vulcan 1st Officer: "Captain, the USS Franchise is the only vessel in the quadrent ."

Grim Faced Cap'n: "By the Prophets...then unless we reach Earth in 2 hou-"

Logical Vulcan 1st Officer: "2 hours, 31 minutes, 16 seconds. And yes sir, then Earth (look directly into camera, cue pompus, bloated music), is doomed."

Now I must search for more information about this.

No one outside of an established fanbase will want to see a show with a pure alien cast. There's absolutely no character they could relate to right off the bat. If the aliens are human-like, there's no purpose.

A new Trek series could focus on all the unanswered questions in Trek lore. One group of episodes could focus on the Eugenics Wars, one group could tell us why Knlingons and Romuland have bony foreheads beginning in TMP, a stories about what has happened to some TOS and TNG characters. Not the Enterprise crews, but the interesting characters they met during the run of the series'.

That could be pretty cool.

Speaking of interesting characters, I wonder what a Harry Mudd Trek would be like? A show that focused on a sleazy guy--and associates, of course--who wasn't quite evil, but wasn't at all heroic would be nice for a change. Even in DS9 middle-ground characters were ultimately made too good or bad. I want someone who remains morally ambiguous, kind of like, oh, I dunno, a real guy!

Muddtrek or, if you prefer, "Who's Harry Mudd?" might make for an interesting mini-series. It'd never happen because Trek stars must hold up a big sign announcing their integrity at all times. That, and after ENT I think Trek's taking a hiatus.

In the off-chance B&B do push for another show, I definitely want something told from a non-Federation perspective. If I can't have "Jeri and Jolene: Trek Hardcore," then Muddtrek or something like it would be a start.

You just described what DS9 should have been. If only they had some competent writers. My favourite characters from that show were Garak and Odo, both of whom weren't Starfleet (and Garak was a Cardassian! And a former Nazi-equivalent! And possibly gay...).

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a new Trek show which would be based off a newly formed colony, perhaps a rebel colony or one that was a former member of the Federation? Maquis survivors? Starfleet might be seen as the bad guys who are trying to reexert their rule.

If going by the timeline after VOY, maybe there would be no better time for a rebellion? Consider that the Klingons were decimated during the Dominion War ("Inter Arma Silent Enem Leges" suggests that the Klingons would need years or decades to recover from the war), and the Romulans as of Nemesis are now leaderless (the entire senate was wiped out) and may in fact be ruled by federation proxy ("Inter Arma Silent Enem Leges" again). The Cardassians aren't a threat, nor are the Dominion.

Besides, it would be a nice change of pace - the usual nice-guy image of the Federation would be replaced with the stark cold reality - they're bastard sonsabitches. And dammit, I want to see the Maquis again!

Just to nitpick a little: The Romulans didn't get their forehead ridges until TNG. There were Romulans shown in both the fifth and sixth movies, and none of them had forehead ridges.

Did anyone else thought that forehead ridge made a 'V' shape? That was the stupidiest thing I've ever seen, because duh those were Romulans. It should have made an 'R' shape. In case some people couldn't tell the difference between Romulans and Vulcans.

This could be useful, as you could have in the first episode, one person that survives, and is telling the story, from a historical view. So you know that charcter survives, but who else? It would also help with the series, as you see the people there, and know that in ~5 years, the Dominion will come along, and kill them all.
I like. Have the first episode of the Klingon series show the Emperor bringing the empire together, and show the whole series as the Emperor himself is the force that binds the various warlords together. Then in the last episode, have someone assassinate the Emperor, and the whole empire goes into a twenty-sided civil war. Lots of warlords fighting each other, politics to play others against each other, commando operations to cripple key ships, and lots of hopeless last stands that the new Klingons love.

Even more fun, is that the Romulans are raiding the Klingons as well, and helping to prune back their forces. When 2 Klingon forces attack, the Romulans wait under cloak, then when one side wins, the Romulans attack them, and steal whatever supplies they can )Romulans need the supplies too).

Klingons that try to attack Romulans are ambushed enroute, as the scattered warlords are too busy fighting each other to coordinate.
Besides, it would be a nice change of pace - the usual nice-guy image of the Federation would be replaced with the stark cold reality - they're bastard sonsabitches. And dammit, I want to see the Maquis again!
This would be useful. Have a group of starving Romulans going to the Federation for help, to get food for their children. The Federation replies that "the situation presently going on is an internal Romulan affair", and then refuse the food. So the Romulans then make up a plan to steal it.

There could be some Romulan commanders who are taking advantage of the Klingon situation to raid their worlds, and kill off the Klingons. However, when they return to their bases, they notice extra supplies there, to help offset the resources used in the attacks. Someone is helping them in the assaults against the Klingons.

Other groups start maknig alliances with the Cardassians and Ferengi, and bgrowing strong through trade and cooperation. For some reason, they aren;t making as much money as normal. Where is the extra going?

The Romulan Empire itself is in a similar Civil War as the Klingon Empire. However, have some of the central groups start allying together, and militarizing. At the end of the 5th season, you finally see their leader - Commander Selar. She has reunited the Romulan Empire, strengthened it, new technology, lots of warships, and she still hates the Federation, and so does every other Romulan.

The next series would be a Federation-Romulan War, with Selar on one side, and the whole Federation on the other. Opening Strike = sabotage attack on the Enterprise that destroys it, for the morale effect, and strategic strikes on Utopia Planitia shipyards and Binarians, for long-term effects.

The Federation is now in the position of trying to play peacemaker among the Klingons, while fighting for its life against the Romulans.

(Whew)
