Some of the other ST novels actualy have the New Frontier novels as part of their 'canon' universe. Like in Imzadi, Shelby comes in the Excal to resuce Riker and Worf.

And its good to see Jellico got kicked up to Admiral. Deserves it for sure.
D'oh! Of course it's Shelby. I'm going to edit that post so I don't confuse anyone but thanks for pointing that out. :? I knew something didn't seem right about that post.

I kind of like Jelico as an Admiral. Sometime he's a bit of a dick but there are times where he's sensible and pretty crafty in his own right. Not a bad combination to have in an Admrial.

I'm sure starfleet approved of that appoach.

Actually...

After Calhoun explained his reasoning, and saying that no matter what he'll always be aware they died by his hand, he got kinda-sorta-commended. Shelby, who was acting weapons officer, got in trouble for Mutiny
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

What else is the series about? Is it the standard Trek "let's go explore space where people routinely shoot at us for trespassing into their galactic backyard" or something else? Does it tie in to other series? It seems remarkably consistent with TNG in regards to one-time characters who are introduced in an episode then promptly forgotten. I liked Peter David's books, particularly since he's a fan of the show and picks up on things which the standard writers forget.

The Charecters are written profoundly differently then from most Trek charecters. There is a lot more humor injected into the Series. Early in the series the "Bad Guys" were a bunch of religious Fanatics named the Redeemers who rose to power after the Thallon Empire Collpsed. (This series mostly takes place within the now-defunct Thallon Empire. Think of it as a area of space that resembles a rapidly disintigrating Roman Empire, except most of the Romans are now dead)

There is also much use of Profranity, but PAD never overdose it. In fact, he often uses his catch-all "Grozit", which is also what Captain Marvel (avatar) uses.
