Ok, who plays Scotty, McCoy, Sulu, and Checkov?
William Dafoe kinda has the look for McCoy (proper number of early wrinkles), but not really the voice.

Sulu the only one I can really see doing it would be Chow Yun-Fat, but he'd need to loose a bit of weight.

Checkov just get the original to do it, makeup could do the trick of reversing the years I think.

No idea on scotty.

CYF might make a good Sulu, but it might work better if an actor who actually was of Japanese desent be cast. ;)

Most likely, if Russel Crowe is playing Jim Kirk, they'd cast a B list actors for McCoy and Spock, and the rest of the crew would be young unknowns. Russel Crowe is going to eat up most of your casting budget. The only other spot for an A list actor would be as Captain Kirk's love interest. Jennifer Connely in THIS outfit, perhaps?

Ugh, Jennifer Connely puts me to sleep because she herself seems to be half-asleep...

Oh, fine. Just substitute whatever hot A-list actress you prefer.

I'd like to see Maura Tierney somewhere in it, perhaps... :)

If you couldn't get Hugo Weaving to play Spock, I'd pick Adrien Brody.
I'm not sure about Willem Dafoe as McCoy, but I would love to see him as the villain, though. I'd pick James Woods.
For Scotty, I'd suggest Ewan MacGregor.
For Sulu, I'd suggest Jason Scott Lee.
For Chekov, I'd pick Tobey Maguire, though I'm not certain he can do the accent.
If Yeoman Rand is in the movie, I'd like Kate Hudson in that role.
If Nurse Chapel is in it, I'd go with Charlize Theron.
If Sarek is in it, I'd pick Jeremy Irons.
If Harry Mudd is in it, I'd pick Chris Tucker.

....

Jason Scott Lee is even less Japanese than Chow Yun-Fat.

Half of the rest of your picks are equally as bad.

Not to mention it makes no sense to spend millions to get a bunch of big-name actors to play a supporting roles.

Not to mention impossible. A-list actors don't like to share screentime unless they are doing a parody or an artistic movie and Star Trek is neither.

Get the Raelians to clone us them. Then have Rael ask his alien buddies to fast forward them and xerox the brains of the real actors except make them want to work for free and like sharing the spot light.

This is only slightly less plausible than casting nothing but A-list actors.

Ewan Macgregor as Scotty, but bah, CDiehl beat me to that!!!
As long as he remembered he was on Star Trek, he'd do fine... but 'use the Force Kirk' could always slip in as a joke I guess...

Col. Crackpot wrote:just going slightly off topic Stravo, i came across a story on Foxnews.com recently. It was a hollywood gossip piece centering around Russell Crowe and the premiere of Master and Commander. Aparantly there is growing studio talk of Russell Crowe 'rescuing the franchise' of Trek by (deep breath) apperaing in a TOS era Trek movie. As James T. Kirk. Denials all around of course. So, Bill Shatner's 15 minutes are up in 3.....2....1. I'll try and dig up that article.
You know, I could see that. How about a TOS movie, made by people completely uninvolved with Bozo and Binhead, faithful to the original, right down to the Matt Jefferies ship designs. Some giant, two and a half hour epic written and directed by people who know what the fuck they're doing, staring A list actors.
I can also see that. Unfortunately, I can also see supermodels in my bedroom when I masturbate.

Only if she tries for another Oscar by having Kirk (for whatever reason) bend her over some console and "make her feel good" (Monster's Ball reference). It's about time that Trek get updated a bit anyway. It was always pushing the limits in the 60s what has it pushed lately. Kirk banging Uhura or anyone on screen would be a sign that it's not just the same old stuff with big names plugged into the parts (sort of like Lost in Space).

Hopefully there'd be a lot more than that to the movie but something like that might be a decent shot to have early on so people know without a doubt that this is not just an expensive rehash.

He did not have Sybock's special mental powers be the reason they 'convert' but by the "Force of Sybock's philosophy" Bill?! Bill!! You're telling me that Sybock TALKS the crew into defecting??
That would have been UNFORGIVABLE.
