Its all part of an evil conspiracy by weaker socieites to attack Federation ships with Lasers.

This was a possible Copyright issue. In DS9 the Enterprise was mentioned exactly ONCE when not being used in conversation with either O'Brien or Worf. A single time the Enterprise was actively talked about on its whereabouts. This was before Generations. After TNG went big screen the Enterprise was never actively talked about again nor seen. (excluding the pilot episode of course).

How could it be a copyright issue? Doesn't the same company run everything?

Maybe there was some kind of political tension going on behind the scenes between the movers and shakers behind TNG and DS9. You never know what kind of shit goes on behind the curtain.

Given the structure of the UFP and the information from Insurrection, this is the most accepted explination. While its likely the E-E saw combat, there were more important missions for Picard. Hold the UFP together.

I just wish we could have had a single mention of the E-E taking part in a battle, leading a task force, something. Hell, even Worf could have mentioned the E-E was doing something.

Actually, I just realized that the simplest in-universe explanation comes from the DS9 pilot. We know that Sisko hates Picard because their only prior meeting was at Wolf 359, so perhaps nobody ever mentioned the E-E on the show because they knew it was a sore spot with Sisko.

It had to do with who had the Sovereign class ship. ILM had the models and had contracts to use them in the films. The guys who do the TV series FX (I think Foundation??) on the other hand didn't have a Sovereign. So they couldn't bring it in without a lot of legal crap, so they didn't bother.

Well Berman apparently totaly ignored DS9 after about the third season to work on Voyager. Dito Braga.

Problem is at the end of the said Pilot, Picard and Sisko make their peace with each other.

Oh well, too bad. It would have been a neat explanation.

It might be better to conclude it's partly Sisko not wanting to have to run to the 'famous Picard' for help, and perhaps partly because Starfleet actually behaved intelligently, and sent Picard to do diplomactic stuff instead of mucking around at warfare, not wanting to fire back.

There's also the size of the Federation to take into consideration. The Dominion War was taking place on one end of the Federation and remember that the current size of the Federation requires a starship to spend one year at maximum warp to cross Federation space.

The Enterprise could have been shoring up the other end of the Federation while the Dominion war was raging on the other end. It would not be inconcievable for entire fleets of ships never having seen action in the Dominion War because they were stationed months away.

Except that the E-E was in the local neighbourhood in STFC and Insurrection, both of which took place during the Dominion War. It was so close that Worf was able to be on the ship for both movies without missing time on DS9.

Thats a good point. I never thought of that fact.

Still Federation Space doesn't appear to take THAT long to cross. Which is another inconsistency with the speed of warp drives but hey. I mean Sisko and his command crew could go from DS9 to the Klingon HQ deep in Klingon space within a matter of days. Bashier could go to a confrence on the Romulan homeworld with only a few days of travel (albeit in a high warp starship). Hell even DS9 to Earth only takes around a day on the Defiant.

That's only one border. Federation territory may extend for much further on the side of the Federation opposite the Romulans/Klingons/Cardassians.

It was mentioned in First Contact that Federation space spanned 8000 lightyears. That would mean it would take years for a fast starship to cross it.[/quote]
