Just saw an ep of TOS this morning

Post by MKSheppard »

3 AM on the Sci-Fi channel...and I was surprised at how good it was
compared to the current crop of "Trek".

It was the episode where Kirk, Sulu, and Bones are trapped on that
planet with a woman trying to kill them, and the E-nil flung 900 lightyears
away...

The Warp Core wasn't in the middle of the engine room, all glowing
and exposed like that, but instead, was in a sealed tunnel that Scotty
had to climb into...

And Kirk is still Kirk.....even at this age...I can see the William
Shatnerisms he populated the movies with 20 years later

"Wink of an Eye"

Yeah, I watched that one, too. :) Admittedly, a weaker episode, but still pretty good.

It used to be on every day at 6pm after Knight Rider, but they replaced it with The Incredible Hulk. Annoying, I don't want to stay up until 4 every night.

"That Which Survives". Not the A-level of TOS, perhaps, but a fairly entertaining adventure story and one with a couple of well thought-out twists —particularly in how Spock figured out how to undo the sabotage by the Kalandian computer.

Best of all, this represented the whole extent of the script's technobabble:

Computer, analysis of comparison coordinates.

ANALYSIS COMPLETE: TRANSPORT FACTOR M7. REASSEMBLED OUTPHASE POINT ZERO-ZERO-ZERO-NINE.

Will reverse-polarity correct the outphase condition?

AFFIRMATIVE, IF M7 FACTOR MAINTAINED.

Mr. Scott, reverse polarity on your magnetic probe.

Reverse polarity?! It'll take some doing. And I don't see what you hope to accomplish.

Please proceed, I shall explain. You were correct in your "feel". The Enterprise was put through a molecular transporter and reassembled slightly out of phase. Reverse polarity should seal the incision.

Oil an emergency?! It's about time, Brigadier, that the leaders of this planet of yours realised that to remain dependent upon a mineral slime simply doesn't make sense.

Hmmm... That episode is ok. If you want to see great TOS, watch "The Balance of Terror."

And quite possibly the most romantic episode of Star Trek ever.

Unleash the big gun will you? :P

It's my favorite(aside from the mangled controversy...and amazingly if you talk to Ellison in person about it...he has little to say other then the person he would scream at is no longer alive) mostly because the way they portray Kirk and Spock was good too.

You've got to read Ellison's book on the subject, to see just how much he hates Trek and Roddenberry.
"...in truth, Roddenberry had about as much writing ability as the lowest industry hack. A fact."
"That was Gene. Couldn't write for sour owl poop.."
"By wildly extravagant heroification of Gene Roddenberry, all the untruths, all the false credit, all the betrayal and perfidious behavior he wallowed in, has been permitted to be flensed...leaving only this glowing icon who wouldn't tell a lie or hurt a fly. Yeah, and there are actually schmucks who think Adolf Hitler made the trains run on time."
"As one disillusioned ex-Trek official recently said, 'You know why they cremated Gene? They were afraid people would come to piss on the
grave.'"

Forever"

Oh I read that...believe me.

I'm talking about 4~5 years ago I met him through Peter David(we went out to lunch) this was at a Big Apple Con and I asked him about it, and he basically implied he already said everything he wanted to say in the book and said "Anything I say to you won't matter much since the person I want to talk with is dead."

I read the book :)
