Artemis II launch countdown

Post by Isolder74 »

Today is April 1st but it's also launch day for the Artemis II mission! We are finally preparing to launch people to Moon for the first time since the end of the Apollo missions.

God speed to the brave souls onboard!

Artemis II launched successfully, I am so glad I got to see this.
Baltar: "I don't want to miss a moment of the last Battlestar's destruction!"
Centurion: "Sir, I really think you should look at the other Battlestar."
Baltar: "What are you babbling about other...it's impossible!"
Centurion: "No. It is a Battlestar."

TLI went as planned, so Artemis II is definitely on it's way now. This is sweet.

Did their "translunar injection burn" (if I have that correct) and are on their way to the Moon and back. Apparently it's physics steering from here on in.

Brought back memories of watching the Apollo missions in my distant childhood. I did not think it would take this long to go back.

Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. You haven't gone back yet. No landing.
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

I wasn't paying attention in the lead up to this and didn't realise this was a manned mission.

This is awesome.

So apparently the $20 million space toilet is broken.
That's gonna be one smelly space capsule by the time it gets back.

They have reportedly fixed it.

And it's broken again.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/artemis ... -9.7153491

But not fully broken, they can still take a dump in the toilet but peeing is out because the drainage lines are iced up. Astronauts are gonna be peeing into bags until they get back to Earth or the drainage lines unfreeze.

Assume an average amount of pee per person, so about 1.5 litres per day or 6 litres total and that's about 60 litres of urine floating around in the capsule by the time it lands. That's gonna be one hell of a mess if the pee bags leak or explode during re-entry.

All it means is that they down to Apollo bathroom tech. Not something they wouldn't be ready for.

It's an amusing note that the Artemis II crew barely acknowledged Trump yesterday while being pretty vibrant today with Canada's PM Carney.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
