TIL: If I have to be at work at 9:45, getting up at 8:30a might sound like a good idea when I'm half-asleep and wanting that extra time, but it doesn't give me a lot of time to get ready and eat and check my morning news.

Realizing this at 8:15am is what saved me. I am dressed, perfumed, made-up, I've eaten (but no caffeine yet), and I'm ready to hit the door at 8:56am.

Here: TV On Assignment

In a nutshell, truck drivers in Pakistan making their vehicles as ornate and colourful as they can, they are real works of art. Apparently the tradition goes all the way back to the horse and cart. The segment on the trucks showed a workshop full of them, some of them undergoing maintenance and others being painted. And they're just as well decorated inside the cab as out!

TIL there's such a term as 'gravitationally discriminated' for heavy people :D
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

If a horse dies of a twist in the large intestine, it will bloat within a day. And can pop on the crane of the DAT truck.

Off to take another shower...
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

The fourth in 4 months. Not counting the 1 that I managed to save after some fight.

TIL: going to bed at 8pm means waking up at 2:30am, and not really getting back to sleep, just dozing til the alarm went off at 4:30am.

Also learned I could probably get away with getting up at 5am, as long as I have made my lunch the night before, because I'm sitting here at 5:30am just doomscrolling waiting til time to leave.

TIL...that NASA had it's own fleet of APC's for evacuating shuttle astronauts from the launch pad in emergencies, a process that also involved a 1200 foot zip line:

TIL that VMWare is price gouging it's customers, example an 8 mill contract is now a 100 mill contract. Thanks VMWare for showing the inherent risks of cloud computing.

This means returning to bare metal servers will be economical and probably a lot of customers are implementing this right now and getting the fuck away from VMWare as fast as they can.

TIL I'd not updated my EZPass account. It was still billing for the Prius, not the Subaru.

So, changed cars, updated Plates, and got it set up so I can travel out of state and use my EZPass on toll roads out of state. Because I'm going to be going out of state the end of the month and will be driving the PA Turnpike for the last section of the trip.

Last time I drove the PA Turnpike by accident, thought my EZPass would cover it, but it didn't cover outside WV so PA tried to bill me $30+ for "non-payment". I had to call, see why EZPass didn't Pass me, and got it talked down to $3 and change, which was the toll for that section of the Turnpike (despite me driving less than a mile on it to get from the road I was on to I-79.) I mailed my check for $3 and change, and remembered the lesson for this round.

TIL that going to bed thinking about how it might be nice to have a simple 9-5 office job results in nightmares about office jobs. Amusingly, two of my best friends were in the nightmares, and they were the ones who were helping me sort out the nightmare problem, which immediately ended the nightmare once I figured out what I was missing.

But a nightmare about being on the telephone with customers who have a Major Problem that another office has to fix,a nd being unable to find that office's phone info to transfer them (until friends helped and dream ended), and btw here's two customers who snuck in the Staff Entrance looking for help with their problem and they're miffed because I won't get off the phone and help them so they go running around the office looking for someone to help them...

((BTW: The bit about the two customers actually happened. IRL I politely told them they were in the wrong office and escorted them out of the Staff Only section to the Main Entrance and where they needed to talk to someone to get helped. ))

I remember something like this happening to me when I was part of the 5-man team taking calls for the IT services for NHS Primary Care Trust in my area and had a call from someone who wanted their medical notes. Somehow a patient had gotten hold of the number of the IT line, so I had to explain that they had the wrong number and this was for staff with IT issues. Of course I had no clue who they were supposed to contact instead because that wasn't my job :banghead:

TIL If I go to bed at 8pm, it really helps to have the cellphone in the bedroom with me so I hear the alarm in the morning.

Thankfully I realized it wasn't there about 2am when I woke up and wanted to know what time it was.

Oh well, at least I get free postage for returning it.
