Michael Clarke Duncan Dead at 54

Post by One Two »

Shit ...

I didn't even know he was 54 or that he had a heart attack last month.

He was in a lot of movies I remember, some better than others. His role in the Green Mile was probably his best objectively. Subjectively, I liked his role in Planet of the Apes so much so that I think he was basically the only positive thing about that movie.

I'll miss the big guy.

C'mon, clearly his best role was Bear in Armageddon… "Hey Harry! Did they find oil on Uranus?" :D

I'm gonna guess his size and probable steroid use contributed to whatever heart ailments he had. It's too bad though, he seemed like a pretty cool guy and 54 is too young for anyone.

Nope, so far as I've heard "just" a massive heart attack. Supposedly his girlfriend/fiancee did CPR on him until the paramedics arrived, basically saving his life on that day although obviously he remained in a very dire state afterwards.

If they were considering a transplant, well, the odds of getting a heart big enough for a man his size aren't great, and being a minority just makes the odds that much worse. Unfortunately, big men tend to be prone to heart problems, and if they have heart problems their size just complicates matters. He had lost weight in recent years and adopted a vegetarian diet, but since no medical details have been released who knows what triggered the heart attack? There's been no word on whether he had long-term cardiovascular disease or was just nailed by an arrhythmia or something.

In any case, I'm sad the big guy is gone.

It sounds eerily familiar to pro wrestling deaths in that same age group. Their hearts just give out from heavy steroid use, but would think Duncan would have a lighter lifestyle and not have to abuse them as much for a movie role once or twice a year. That's assuming if he did use or abuse steroids, but the guy was once said to be 350lbs and pretty solid not fat. He was a frequent guest on Craig Ferguson's late night show and seemed like a nice guy.

Is there any evidence he ever used steroids at all?

I mean, OK, yes, his shoulders could have gotten that way from working construction and he could have the greatest muscular genetics in the history of the world... but come on, they were bigger than most peoples heads. You do not get that big on accident.

Well, geez, 'scuze me for asking I was seeking general information here. I've never heard that accusation before and was wondering if it was based on actual evidence or just "hur, hur, he looks big."

Wow. That was unexpected. Sad to see him die that young.

He deliberately put on weight for the Kingpin role in Daredevil, otherwise, his weight apparently fluctuated between 270 and 300 for most of his adult life. For a man 6 foot 5 that's heavy but I'm not sure that qualifies as "eats steroids like candy". Got anything other than your own speculation?

His role in The Island was excellent. It was that moment you realize the whole scheme is deeply fucked up.
