You've just become absolute dictator, with a secret police force that will enforce your word as law. What one thing would you change about society, knowing that those who break you law will be shot for breaking it?

No more than five minutes on a cell phone in a public place. Violators will be shot, without exception.

Id stop all immigration in California besides US citizens. I know this screws over a lot of nice people from over seas but its crowded here.

Then Id pick some poor country at random ( like France ) okay not so random. And make it the worlds largest wildlife preserve.

After that, Id go mad with my power and end up being taken out by radical PETA fanatics after I banned them from the Universe.

If I had to pick something more mundane it would be that all resteraunts that serve Coke must serve it highly carbonated. Flat Coke is a 1,000 dollar fine on the first offense. Second offense is being sent to "re-education camps"

I'd like to say outlawing fundamentalism, but realistically, that would probably increase fundamentalism because people would interpret it like that Chick tract - "The Last Generation." So, I'd probably have to say I'd outlaw frivolus lawsuits.

Note, this is NOT my idea.

A particular member at SpaceBattles (Xort) has the opinion that if he were ever to become dictator of the world he would impliment the Death Penalty for EVERY crime. He also wants to slash the legal system and execute you the same day of the trial.

Thus, his claim would be. You do ANYTHING illegal and your dead.

That reminds me of the organ banks in Niven's books, Alyeska, and what kinds of crimes rate the death penalty there.

I'd have to say that I'd make child molestation punishable by immediate death. The recidivism rate for it is godawful.

2 Words! Gun Rights!
As in: Everyone is required to take basic firearm safety and training courses. These would be patterned after Drivers' Ed courses. Then you get to buy a handgun of your choice, which the government reimburses 80% of the cost, plus 50 rounds of ammo a year. Whoever opts out of receiving a weapon gets a tax credit. Anyone who takes optional advanced weapon training qualifies for a fully working assault rifle. Specialized courses for Sniper Rifle, hand-to-hand, knife fighting, and other weapons would be also available as well as combat tactics and strategy.. All training would be military grade, and such a trained populace would be easily inducted into a standing army should there be war. All of the Libby Socialista Gun Control laws that asswipes like Feinstein forced down our throats would be repealed and replaced with intelligently thought-out regulations.
Also, Marijuana would be regulated similar to alcohol, but controls on weapons use while under the influence of either would be strengthened, similar to today's drunk-driving laws.
Crime is expected to drop down to nearly nonexistent after the adjustment period, since there would be no convictions just for having and using legalized marijuana and alcohol, plus the simple fact that nearly everyone can be assumed to be carring a gun and the training to use it effectively. I'm sure I made a few people faint with these ideas, but they seemed to work just fine for America's forefathers!

I'd start by making Murder (with some justified exceptions), Rape, and child molestation capital crimes. Excuted criminals would have the choice of the guillotine or hanging. All criminals organs would then be donated to those in need. And much tougher prisons for the rest of the crimes.

I would increase the amount of interns to my office and get rid of any pesky audio/video equipment scanning my office.

Durring breaks, I would solve such problems as TORT reform, high taxes, people and their stupid idea of victimization, ect......

I'll make it so that the courts are unbiased and run by people how know what the hell they are doing. No more lawyers influencing the jury by using tricky tactics rather than fact, and no more out of touch judges who hands out sentences which are more like slaps on the wrists than anything else.

No, don't do that,. That's a terrible idea.

The reason being, if rape (and child abuse) carries the same sentence as murder, than what'll stop rapists from murdering their victims to cover their tracks?

Me, I'd introduce those extra CCTV cameras and DNA databse that everyone seems to think that is a violation of their privacy. Then I'll nail all street crime.
