Actually, I think that, in construction projects, alarm systems are one of the first things to get installed after the basic structure is complete.

Considering the state of the Ent-B when it went out on its shakedown cruise are we at all suprised that the Ent-A was in such shoddy shape? Besides I liked the idea that the Enterprise wasn't in tip top shape for once on a mission.

And how much Spock "was immune", you could say just as well that McCoy "was immune". They both were moved to tears, were pretty much talking Kirk to join them (at least McCoy did while Spock wallowed in self-pity), then Kirk threw his temper tantrum and just like that, McCoy went "oh, yeah, you're right dude. I'm with you."

For some reason, I thought Sybok tried it on Scotty, using the whole Peter Preston thing from ST:TWOK, Scotty hung his head, and then said, "But I have work to do!"

That may have been in the novelization, which I read for some bizarre reason, perhaps hoping it would improve on the film.

A badly written scene in which we must either accept Sybok's trick as nothing more than cheap hypnotic suggestion (i.e., which would not work against strongly-held convictions) ... or the odd mind-meld/mystical mind control that works on humans and aliens alike.

Transporters weren't working. Thats why Kirk and co went down by shuttlecraft instead of beaming down.

also would it have been possible to see Kirk's pain? Their has to more that just his son dying, right. Besides that is a pain I would rather not have taken away myself. I did not get the impression that Spock bought it for one minute.

I am not the child you left on Vulcan, comment implies that Spock say right through the whole thing. Besides if I was Sybock I would not have messed with Spock in a mind fight after all her is at the top as far as mind melders go.

Strangely, McCoy also seemed to accepted actions contained in his 'pain.' acter all no one can see the future. Besides he father asked to be let go!

I hated the new bridge. The TOS movie bridge was merely given a touch-up at the end of STIV, and it was just fine. It had cool features- the weapons console. The funky chairs. It was just better. The new bridge sucks. Just a whole bunch of consoles with no discernible purpose.

Of course, they merely darkened the same set for use on ST VI.

I really didn't like the way the bridge looked in ST V. Too much like the Ent-D. Ditched buttons and switches in favor of the more digital looking consoles of TNG. ST VI did a nice touch-up of this though, darkening the bridge, adding in buttons, even aging it a bit.

Chekov's weapons console on the refit Enterprise for some reason always reminded me of a glorified arcade game.

Which is why it ruled- the photon torpedo manual fire column, the cool phaser-lock graphics, the cool torpedo lock graphics (ST:TMP) etc. It was way better. The E-A bridge was too damn busy. And mundane. Everything looked the same.
