Well, that certainly sounds a bit better. At least kids have potential to grow up and get a life. I was more worried about the BS of the adults essentially ruining their lives for this...

I'm betting on "completely farcical". The site also says that Martin Scorsese has formed his own award show, which he won by being virtue of the only entrant; that an Iraqi terrorist group has threatened a new wave of attacks unless the quality of "The O.C." is improved, and that the societies of film and music critics have called for the charges against Lindsay Lohan's dad to be dismissed on the grounds that every single film and music critic in America has publicly called for her to be killed horribly without being arrested.

Nuff said. Hardcore trekkies think their favorite TV show is more important than their childrens' happiness or spending quality time with their new spouse. Its amazing that they actually have either.

Have you watched Trekkies and Trekkies 2? VERY scary shit going down out there. Men dressing their cats like TOS Cast members, people spending hard earned money making themselves Batleths and the like. Men driving around in Captain Pike wheel chairs. Trekkies 2 showed us that this particular breed of assmite is not limited to the US as we're treated to the International breed, Italians dressed like Klingons, Germans filming a fan film, Russians spending hundreds of thousands to build a mock up of the TNG bridge, Brits coverting apartments into TNG style crew quarters.

They are out there. And by the looks of all the sad looking babies and toddlers in Starfleet uniforms...they're also breeding.
Wherever you go, there you are.

I still remember seeing a group of Trek fans in full TNG costume walking into a restaurant and sitting at the biggest long table. Nothing out of the ordinary for Halloween, right? Right, except, that THIS WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING SUMMER AND THERE WEREN'T EVEN ANY SCI-FI CONVENTIONS IN TOWN.

These rectal warts just dressed up like this and walked around town for no reason outside their own group!

It may have been the meeting of the local Starship.

Oh cripes people it's not that bad

God i cant beleive folks who actively argue about the technological development of the Empire post-ROTJ think some people in Starfleet uniforms eating lunch are going overboard. Everone here, me especially, is guilty of fanboyism, albeit at varying degrees of course. No body here can claim not to be anything less than a complete nerd, again me especially, without being in complete denial.

Do normal people let their real lives be consumed by it? No, they learn to moderate. Do i beleive that a single person on this board hasn't gone to a convention or dressed up like a Stormtrooper or took a fake lightsaber and made 'woosh' sounds in front of a mirror? No.

Before everyone flames me here, I'm not defending the notion of giving one's life over to Star Trek or Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica or whatever...i'm just pointing out that fanboyism and fanaticism are not one and the same, though i dont deny one can lead to the other if peopel dont watch themselves it's not one=the other.

Then what is your definition of going overboard?

Having Trek override family, children, relationships. This guy in one Trekkies movie who taught his son Klingon so he would be 'bi-lingual'. Killing one's self if Enterprise goes off. The extreme end of the scale, which is what overboard means.

It'd be a lot more than some fanboys who masterbate over their homemade Starfleet uniforms thats for sure.

Add to that killing someone else for not liking Trek/Wars/Whatever, or attacking/hurting others over this stuff. Again, the extreme end of the scale, when it becomes dangerous really.

I think that website is satirical, so these probably aren't real people (at least I certainly hope so).
I suppose it might be a good thing if the fans saved the show and went on to produce it. They might very well produce much better stuff than Paramount, since they actually care about it as opposed to trying to bleed the cash cow to death. Enterprise has the potential of being a great show-but only if they junk all the garbage B&B spewed out and went back to the drawing board; starting over from scratch. I'd suggest they look over Ozaku's Starfleet Museum, as it gives you a good feel for what that period of time would have been like.

Overboard doens't mean the extreme end of the spectrum, 18. That's why we have words like "extreme" in the first place. Overboard means to be beyond the norm (and I'm not interested in getting into fucking dictionary definition nitpicking...), and covers a broad amount of ground.

Going overboard as a fan to me fits in precisely with what Mike observed: a group of grown adults going to a public eating establishment while in costume from a fictional television series.

Well your probably (more likely than not) right, i was just saying i wouldn't feel worried about someone who goes and wears Starfleet uniforms as much i would someone who, like i said, actually begins to do dangerous stuff involving their fanboyism.

Of course i'm probably just splitting hairs. I just dont think it's as worrying or bad as some people on the outside and in the sci-fi circles seem to think. I've seen/heard worse (like i said people hurting others about this stuff, getting into fistfights over Star Trek, etc) and i largely compare it to that when i'm judging what is bad or dangerous or whatever. Course maybe that's not an acurate scale but it works for me.

Ah, that explains it. I had never even heard of datelinehollywood before, and I only found the link by Googling what Tommy J put in his post. I didn't bother looking around the site, although to be honest, the stuff in the forums at the saveenterprise.com site looks just as pathetic. I notice most of the fans sound very young; a lot of them talk about getting money from their parents.

Makes me wonder if Paramount canceled the show knowing they could get the fans to fund it instead?

Answer: The jersey is socially acceptable, the uniform is not. No logical reason for that to be the case, but there's no logical reason for plaid suits to be socially unacceptable either. You live with the consequences if you want to defy social conventions.

I am reminded of a prank that David Letterman once played. He had something like 30 people all dressed up in easty bunny outfits (the big ones that you totaly wear) and was slowly introducing them to a single coffee shop one or two at a time. He wanted to see how many rabits in a coffee shop he could get away with before they were asked to leave. After he had a dozen inside, still nothing happened. So he started introducing them in 4s and 5s. Eventualy he had that shop chalk full of people in rabit suits and they still weren't kicked out. It was so fucking funny.

check this shit out

The choice quote:
The donors weren't just ``Trekkies'' (hard-core fans of the series); they had their own motives for the contributions.

``They are people who want to explore space and privatize the space program, and they feel that `Enterprise' is an inspirational show that benefits that goal as well,'' Moore said.
What the fuck? How does giving millions of fucking dollars to a shitty TV show help space exploration? Wouldn't it be a little more prudent to, I don't know, donate it to NASA or one of the companies currently getting into space exploration?
