This has been an ongoing debate between my Brother and I. My first infatuation with Star Trek began with TNG, and of Jerry Goldsmith's theme for the show. I used to think that the TNG theme came from the show and Goldsmith just applied it to Star Trek V since he composed it. But when I first saw Star Trek: TMP a few years back and earlier learned that he scored the first movie, I liked the TMP rendition of the Star Trek main title a lot better than the TNG version. My Borther (as usual) seems to disagree with me and think that most Star Trek fan like the TNG theme and remember it better from the show. Which in your opinion is the better version?
I like the TMP version for many reasons. Generally I think it's a better performed version that seems to be pure Goldsmith. Plus I prefer the opening fanfare that hints at the main theme, to the TOS fanfare.
