Favourite Star Trek book

Just like it says on the tin was is your favourite book, it can be based on any serries.

Even though i'm not keen on the TOS era books i'm picking Home Is The Hunter. It was an interesting look into the culture of Scotty, Checkov and Sulu and it had a nice bitter sweet taste at the end.

I particularly like the Stargazer series of books. It's a nice look into Picard's first command and the time between TOS and TNG.

Following the senior staff, along with several lower officers makes for a good well-rounded book, I think.

There was this TNG novel I liked really well called 'Vendetta'. Basically the Doomsday machine was built by a race assimilated by the borg and they turned the thing loose in an attempt to destroy the borg. We learn that the machine has a big brother and it destroys five cubes over the couse of the novel. The thing ends up getting lost on its way to borg space. The pilot tries to go to warp 10 or something and is lost in the infinities or something like that.

I haven't read that many trek books, there were simply too many to look for and too many to determine which were good and which were bad. As it happens, I've picked up way too many bad ones anyway. However, I really like "Avenger." If for no other reason than because it ties in with the episode "Conscience of the King" from TOS to TNG era trek.

What would people recommend for good Trek books?

Marshak & Culbreath's Price of the Phoenix and Fate of the Phoenix 2-book series. Omne was a great villain ... the drama between Kirk, Spock & the Romulan Commander got to be a bit tedious, but I liked their take on the whole 'perfect double' theme.

The graphic novel Debt of Honor.

It covers different parts of Kirk's career from when he was a Lt on the Farragut until right after ST IV. Each story from the different times all ends up tying in to the overal story.

Without a doubt and hand's down is Dianne Duanne's My Enemy My Ally. I must have read this book at least a dozen times. The characterizations of Kirk and the crew were spot on and the Romulan commander was very well down and interesting. Duane's take on the Rihansu (Romulans) was head and shoulders above anything TNG has done with the Romulans.

I haven't really read many, I did buy 'Tales of the Dominion War' a few months back, it's a collection of many mini stories by a few famous Star Trek authors and that's good.

TNG: Don't know the english name of that one, but the manager from the 21th century from "The Neutral Zone" was in it. Basically the Cardies use the Ferengi to transform a primitive society into interstellar pirates.

Despite my reputation on SDN for being pro-Trek novels, even I haven't read all of them. There are a number of titles on my to-read list, but until then, I'll read off some of my favorites. In alphabetical order:
