An example is that episode when Trip gets stuck on a planet with a hostile alien, and he ends up making friends with said alien. When I saw that episode I felt I had seen it before. Then I remembered. It was a voyager episode where Chakotay gets stuck with that Kazon kid played by the same actor who plagged Nog on DS9.
Reusing old plot devices over and over and over again to the point of absurdity is a classic Star Trek staple! Even Picard had to befriend a random alien once on TNG, the one that spoke in obtuse metaphors.
The sad part about that too is that one would think that with the entire Milky Way Galaxy they could think up some more provacative plots then to rehash a language and communication challenge.

Finally it died.

Let's hope that it will end this horrible play.

While I agree they could perhaps have been more creative here, I will stick up for it as a high quality TNG episode. Another point in its favor is that this is only the (insert number) rehash of a communications barrier, while by the time we get to Voyager/Enterprise it has become so much older a concept due to additional overuse.

"You're prepared for a giant monster made entirely of nulls stomping around Mainframe?!"

"That is correct!"

"How do you plan for that?"

"Uh... lucky guess?"

Wow, season four must've been pretty good.

Schneider, by all accounts, hates Enterprise. Yet, almost every season four episode listed has atleast a rating of five. The highest rated episode was a 9. Mayhaps S4 shouldn't be judged as harshly as the previous seasons?

Kinda wish Coto had been put in control from the beginning.

It's a perfect example of too little, too late.

I don't know if Coto really could have done anything even if he'd been on board from the beginning. Trek came out of Voyager badly weakened, and UPN expected good ratings from ENT. Now maybe if it's a compelling series from the first day, it gains a following, but at this point, UPN has found a niche that doesn't really have a lot of room for Trek, unless Trek was getting good enough ratings to justify keeping it.

Really, Viacom should have looked at what a mess Voyager was, fired everybody involved, and launched a new series with new people on CBS after taking a few years off. Going to UPN was probably mistake #1 for Paramount; it drastically lowered Trek's visibility. Bad writing hurt too, but I don't know, the more I look at it, if Trek could have been on a success on a network that spent long periods of time off the air in markets like Chicago.

I heard this on the radio this morning, and that some Trek organisation is going to petition to keep this crap on the air even longer...

Yes, we know there are Trek fans out there who will worship ANYTHING with the Trek name on it, no matter how crappy. They also suck B&B's cocks on a regular basis.
