Star Trek Force Subs(DS9/Voyager)
Since I'm bored, and curious, how would things change if...
Instead of an Intrepid class, a Sovereign with war refit is sent to the Delta Quadrant.
Shinzon and the Scimitar, just after Shinzon gets Picard's DNA, are transported into the Delta Quadrant.
Instead of Bajor, the wormhole in DS9 opens next to Tartonis III and Starbase 74.

1. It would do a lot better than an Intrepid, but is Janeway still commanding? If so, the only difference would probably be that they do better combat wise. If in the hands of a compentent crew, they might have gotten home in better shapeNieztchean Uber-Amoeba wrote:Since I'm bored, and curious, how would things change if...

2. The Romulan Empire is closer to the Delta Quadrent I belive, so they should be able to get home faster, and with the perfect cloak and all the heavy firepower the Scimitar has they could make it there easily
3. I'm not to sure how this would effect the Dominion War, but the stats from DITL show that the Dominion and the Klingons for that matter would have a lot more casualties on thier hand if they tried to take on that monster.

She might be stupid, but from the looks of it, the Voyager looked as if it just sailed out of the yards when it came back. With additional Borg technology...Admiral Bravo wrote:1. In all seriousness, this ship, after all its been through, should have looked a bit more roughed up. But maybe Janeway had had an inflatable starship yard hidden away in that hair of hers

Oh, in that case I belive that they would still be able to get there faster without risking their ship trying to save a planet no one's ever heard of from being destroyedNieztchean Uber-Amoeba wrote:The Soveriegn has an entirely new and more competent crew, and no stupid maquis.
However, they still, under the influence of the Brainbugs of Ceti Alpha, destroy the Caretaker's array and have to get home the loooooooooooonnng way.

Was there a War Refit of the Soveriegn? I'd have thought that it was too new a class to need one. As it was is it's certainly more powerful than a Intrepid. The Kazon Cruisers would pose as big a problem as it did for Voyager. Also if it's a competant crew they may realise timed explosives are their friends, popoff home and the array will go boom with no horrible outcome.

Yes there was modifications made to the Sovereign after Insurrection. New phaser banks, photon torpedo launchers were added.Lord Pounder wrote:Was there a War Refit of the Soveriegn? Lets see.
So I guess the Caretaker array simply blew up for no reason? Because a War refit Soverign would win the engagement in 'Caretkaer' in about five seconds.
The Kazon instead of trying to capture and attack this Federation starship stay the HELL away. Combat wise, a refit Sovereign class is as far beyond an Intrepid as say a WW2 Battleship was from a Destroyer. Voyager was able to engage 4 of the Kazons biggest Warships and hold her own in 'Basics'. Though her Phasers didn't appear to have the punch to do more then annoy them, a couple of photons blew them away easily.
A Sovereign carries WAY more torpedoes, plus has Quantum launchers as well. And her phasers are FAR more powerful, on par with torpedoes themselves. Her shields are able to soak up WAY WAY more damage plus are regenerative. She can hold higher warp speeds much longer and despite her size is quite manouverable. Its almost certian that a Sovereign will have much more in the way of supplies and spare parts on board as she is designed for deep space exploration from the outset.
So in short, after the first Kazon fleet to go up against "Voyager" becomes wreckage, they get the hint and stay out of its way. Then within two years, they arrive at the wormhole those Ferangi and the E-D crew went into that was unstable. They act much the same, except this time with a competent crew thye don't screw around or listen to the Ferangi's stupid plees that made Janeway beam them back down. They throw their asses into the brig, stabalise the Wormhole and head back to the AQ before reaching Borg space.

Skippy and The Scmitar carve a new Empire in the DQ. The Scmitar is scarily powerful compared toant DQ ship we see with the exception of the Borg Cubes.
Skipps 1st step would be to bring the Kazon to heel. With the combined Kazon fleet and the Scmitar the rest of the local area quickly becomes under Reman control.
Can anyone remind me what was significant about Starbase 74?

Starbase 74 is also one of the largest starbases the federation has. Hence me saying that if a dominion fleet engaged the starbase they would have a lot more casualties on there hands. The Shadow wrote:IIRC it orbits the Binar homeworld who are very good with computers. Can anyone remind me what was significant about Starbase 74?

It looks exactly like Spacedock. But think of Spacedock and hte scale it was for a Constitution class to cruise inside it and fly around. Then assume the same design is built, this time letting Galaxy class Starships putter in and fly around. The Shadow wrote:It is THE largest Starbase the Federation has I believe, it dwarfs even Earth Spacedock.
If its weapons capacity is the same, relativly speaking per unit of area as DS9's....it would have bitchslaped the fleet the Dominion took DS9 with easily.

I'd bet that as soon as the first Kazon ship fired at the Enterprise, Picard would crap his pants, surrender, and then spend the next several days trying to figure out how to recapture his lost ship. Then he'd drink some tea and tell Troi how badly he feels about being stuck on the other side of the galaxy because he's such a nancy boy.

Just a tad larger.

No, Starbase 74 does not orbit Bynus. The Bynars stole the Enterprise-D from Starbase 74 to take it to Bynus. (Season 1, episode "11001001")The Shadow wrote:IIRC it orbits the Binar homeworld who are very good with computers. Can anyone remind me what was significant about Starbase 74?
I'll note that the Enterprise visited at least two other similar starbases during TNG - one of them in the "Data has crazy dreams" episode, the other in "Preemptive Strike".
If the DS9 wormhole had decided to open up next to Starbase 74, the Dominion War might well have fizzled out before it really got going - without a nearby ally to send ships to, any Dominion ships coming through the other side would find themselves without local support and surrounded by Federation territory. With the resources of the planet below and the Starbase above, it would probably be much, much easier to effectively mine the wormhole. Also, Starbase 74 is probably not quite so far out on the frontier as DS9 was, and as such will likely be proximate to more Federation starships in the event it requires assistance.
