The Viabillity of a Star Trek:New frontier series/miniseries

Post by Crazedwraith »

Simple question: Would it be possible to make a series/mini series of Peter David's New Frontier series of books? Could the requisite TNG cast be confinced to quest (Picard,Data, Troi and Riker) and star? (Shelby,Selar and Lefler)
Who could play the new orginal characters? (Calhoun,Kebron, Soleta et al)

It would be a cool idea but I'd be shocked if you could get Ashley Judd to even do much of a cameo as Lefler.

Selar wouldn't be too hard since Susie Plakson has been on at least one episode of Enterprise since it came out so she's still on pretty good terms with the Trek world.

I haven't seen the actress who played Shelby since TBoBW II so who knows.

After that there are a lot of new actors to be casting.

Calhoun, Kebron, Soleta, McHenry, the Hermat, and the "Ambassador" from the Thallonian Empire. Even more people if you bother to cast some of the people from the night shift. :) I want to see them do Janos and Mueller would be good too, but having Kebron and Janos as security sure as hell beats the Yar/Worf team.
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.

I think it could be done, but some cast changes would be necessary. I would realy want the same actress to play Shelby, but if that isn't possible, then at at least make the character the same for continuity. I didn't have that big a problem with the Savik shift in actresses, so it shouldn't hurt any of the characters.

As for what other actors should be involved, I think the current portrayal of Captain Calhoun looks a little like Greg Kinnear. Of course, the early covers have Si Cwan looking like Vin Diesel, so I'm perfectly open to creative casting. :P

The best part is that the NF stories are mostly written as dialogue and visual descriptions, so they're practically screen-ready as they are.

"Like...are we canonical?" --Aaron Dembski-Bowden to Dan Abnett

Why not a TV series that is post-nemesis and we could see the USS Excalibaur armed with new weapons, go exploring new areas of space with New Technology and make peaceful contact with Aliens ( im talking about real aliens not that forehead shit) and have a competent crew.

And we can decanonize Enterprise and possibly Voyager

No, nonono, no more Trek series. You can guess who Paramount would pick to helm it, and it woudn't be pretty.
