Dominion territory has never really been stated on screen.

But in the Final Chapter in DS9, Weyoun states that the Dominion is some 10,000 years old. 700 years earlier, the Borg controlled "a handful of systems". So the Dominion has had more time for growth, and considering that they don't jusy conquer like the Borg do, they'd most likely have more territory.

It was stated that the Jemhader were the Dominion's first line of defense for 2000 years. So that gives an estimated date for the creation of the Dominion army and subsquent conquets. Of course it might be possible the Dominion did not expand untill much later.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Or they just used their own citizens. After all, they did use the Cardassians and Breen. It would make sense to do the same thing in the GQ. At least until the Jem' Hadar came along.

10000 years and their tech was only a little bit above DS9 era.

They didn't seem too preoccupied with technological advancement. Besides, they seemed to be doing well with the biological sciences. And their weapons were curbstomping the Feds before they developed better shielding.

As an aside for the Jem' Hadar 2000 years theory; it's possible they used another type of genetically engineered soldier for their dirty work. Bu that's just a theory.

Eh, when did Weyoun say that the Dominion was 10,000 years old?

The only number I ever remember hearing about the age of the Dominion was 2000 years.

"The Dominion has endured for over 2000 years, and will continue to endure long after the Federation has crumbled into dust."

It was in one of the last eps, "Not in the Dominion's 10,000 yoears has it ever retreated form a war." Or word to that effect. I could have heard it wrong.

EDIT: Just checked the subtitles, is says the Dominion was founded 10,000 years ago.

they were advanced enough to give most federation forces a nice curbstomping the first time they met. The fact that they could consistently make clones with relative ease and grow thousands of soldiers within months also shows they were rather ahead of the federation in terms of bio-tech.

It's still not encouraging that in spite of existing for 10,000(or 2000) years, their ships and tech level are such that the AQ powers can not only compete with them, but defeat them; and that no one in either the Alpha or Beta quadrants have heard of them.

the only way that the alpha quadrant was able to have a chance at defeating them at all was the following:

1) they'd managed to capture a downed jem h'adar warship and study its capabilities, giving them some slim chance at winning. Before that nearly every engagement the AQ wound up getting their asses handed to them

2) sisko had the prophets pull a deus ex machinae and send the fleet packing. If the invading dominion fleet had managed to come through the AQ would have been seriously fucked.

The UFP may not have existed for 2000 years yet, Humans may not have been in space for that long, but other races in the AQ have (including some that make up th UFP).

other races such as. . . .who? i don't recall any spacefaring race in the AQ having space travel for any more than a few hundred years, a thousand at most afaik. the only ones that could possibly even be that close are the melkotians, tholians or maybe the medusians.

Also the Promellians were pretty old. As for Vulcans according Enterprise episode Carbon Creek they visited Earth in 1950s. So they had interstellar travell even before the 2063 First Contact incident.

most notably, the Vulcans & Romulans. They've been in space for at least two millenia. And there are several other races as well.
