Perhaps. The "Shatnerverse" books were well written but I hated how they resurrected Kirk. His send off at the end of Generations was bad enough, but then his resurrection was no better.

True, and I'm no more critical of ST3 than I am of "The Return." For the record, I actually liked the book - it was well written, it was what PAD would describe as 'fannish' and it was fun to read.DaveJB wrote:Well, they had the same problem as TSFS, in that whatever mechanism they used was going to appear ridiculous.
Unfortunately I just got sick of it. "Avenger" was excellent because it tied something we fleetingly touched on in TOS with hidden and intricate layers, which I find is masterful in fanfic. (sorry, none of the Trek books qualify as canon or even official - there's no other designation that sticks.)
But even "Avenger" strained credibility. And when "Spectre" came about, and it was shown how extraordinarily incompetent Picard and the E-E's security is, I just got fed up. Then we have the icing on the cake, Kirk vs Kirk, and mirror Janeway having an affair with Kirk. *shudders*
I reiterate: they're well written books, but they strain plausibility too much.

So, that they have contributed to Star Trek canon with some good results, that seems to be good for Enterprise. I must say that I like Enterprise better than TNG, but hopefully more attention will be paid on continuity.Crazedwraith wrote:This is good, this is very good. DS9: Millenium was a book trilogy and thus was not canon but IT was a very good read though.Mange the Swede wrote:So, that they have contributed to Star Trek canon with some good results, that seems to be good for Enterprise. Oh, sorry. I thought it was an episode from DS9. I haven't seen very much of DS9, since the Swedish television channel who bought the series only bought the first season.Crazedwraith wrote:DS9: Millenium was a book trilogy and thus was not canon but IT was a very good read though.Mange the Swede wrote:So, that they have contributed to Star Trek canon with some good results, that seems to be good for Enterprise. it depends on the deal the writers manage to work out, iirc. i've read several books that've been co-authored, and sometimes it could be that one of the writers pitches ideas to the other who sets up the scenes themselves, or they take time writing separate sections of the book individually. not sure that there's any real set method to co-authoring.Veramocor wrote:Did shatner actually sit down and write any of these books?
How exactly does co-authoring work? Does he just story board his idea and tell the co-author to write it out, then he tweaks and comments?
