Romulan Praetors

Post by Jeremy »

Aside from Shinzon, has a name ever been given for any Romulan Praetor?

He was replaced sometime before Nemisis then?

And did they ever show who the Praetor was before Neral (even if they didn't say his name)?

No, they didn't.

As for the Praetor in Nemesis, his name was according to the credirs, Hiren. Too bad we never found out what happened to Neral, but it's likely he retired in the aftermath of the Dominion cease-fire.

Neral is never (in my recollection) referred to as Praetor, just as Proconsul of the Senate. It's not indicated that the two titles denote the same position, nor is it indicated what either person actually does or if either one is necessarily the head of state. Is there an accepted source that establishes what the Proconsul of the Senate and/or the Praetor do?

No, they make it clear that Neral is the Praetor. From "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" script:

BASHIR'S VOICE

Neral. Formerly Proconsul and
now Praetor of the Romulan Star
Empire.

Praetor, this is the man known
as Sloan. Unlike the Doctor, his
mind is quite susceptible to our

questioning, he has confirmed
much of what the doctor and the
senator have told you. With one
important exception.

Any information on what a Proconsul does?

Is it an administrator of a colony/region?

If that is what a Proconsul is then why would he want to become a Praetor?

Why does the Senate majority leader want to become the president?

It's more power and more recognition.
