Because there were still 24 episodes left in the season.

Gil Hamilton wrote:What are you talking about? The Jem'hedars whole modus operandi seems to be to squeeze off a shot (if that) and tend attempt fisticuffs with whoever they are firing. For instance, the Search was just on on TNN, and during that whole boarding scene, the Jem'hedar used their guns as clubs rather than, you know, shooting with them. In fact, I think there was only two instances of them firing and that was after the Romulan chick prudently drew her gun and when one shot Kira, both of whom were only stunned.
It's ironic you picked that episode to show Jem'Hadar tactics, as they were deliberately attempting to (and succeeded) capture the crew. They didn't want them dead, so they didn't shoot them with their rifles. And IIRC Jem'Hadar weapons don't have a stun setting, meaning if they had used them to kill the crew they would have been in big trouble with their 'gods'.

Explain how Kira survived a direct hit to the chest?

How the fuck should I know? Maybe the writers suck. Actually, they do. I hated that two-parter for a lot of reasons.

Anyway that bit about Jem'Hadar weapons not having stun was more a 'guess' on my part. If they do have a stun then maybe close range firing kills the target (like we had in ST6), so they didn't do it on the bridge. But then Kira took a shot from some distance, and went down without a fight. It still makes sense if stun kills at close range.

What the DS9 Companion has to say:
Depending on your point of view, the credit or blame for the Jem' Hadar falls to Wolfe, who also originated the concept of this particular faction of the Dominion being a fierce warrior race with skin like rhinos.

"We wanted warriors, businessmen and a dark force controlling it all." says Behr.
There isn't a great deal more to be said from the Companion, mostly about how the Dominion is a "carrot and stick" organisation.
"Oh no, oh yeah, tell me how can it be so fair
That we dying younger hiding from the police man over there
Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"

- A.B. Original, Report to the Mist

"I think it’s the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

Those Jemmie guns were stun guns. In the episode, both characters that the Jem'hedar bother to shoot (Kira and the Romulan chick) both were knocked out but were no worse for wear after the fact (neither of their uniforms were even scorched a little). Yet they still resulted to fisticuffs even though they were carrying stun guns.

Interesting enough, another that struck me about the episode was that the Jem'hedar were willing to attack Odo, even though he was recognizably a Changeling in humanoid form.

You forget that the Romulan chick was shot at close range while on the bridge.

Yeah, I forgot a lot about that episode. Meh. I'm a bit confused why I bothered trying to defend the Jem'Hadar anyway... :o

That was T'Rul's only DS9 apperance; we know she survived, yet the deal with the Romulans required her on the bridge. It's possible the Romulans picked her up in Visionary, but it's merely speculation.

I thought she was going to be a new character like Eddington was, and have her own agenda. I actually would have liked to see her develop her character, with no-one trusting her because she's a Romulan, while everyone kind of accepts Eddington because he's Starfleet. Then you have the latter betray the station, making everyone wrong about him, and her.

I should know better than to rely on a ST show to observe continuity.

I still wish we'd had hints of Eddington's sympathies with the Maquis prior to For the Cause but its alright since For the Uniform is one of my all-time favorite Trek episodes - and my favorite performance by Avery Brooks in DS9.
