Noticing a pattern?

Post by Darth Garden Gnome »

just a few thought son the ST vs. SW debates thus far-
Phasers and photorps vs. turbolasers-SW wins. "We got quantorps now!" vs.TLs-SW wins. "oh oh new uber torp, transphasic!" vs. TLs-wars wins. Transporters vs. ISDs shileds-SW wins. "we can transport thru <insert technobabble here> by means of subspace to defeat ure shields!" vs. ISDs shield/jamming-SW wins. warp vs.hyperdrive-wSW wins. trek shileds and (virtually nonexsistent) armor vs. wars shileds and armor-wars wins. warp strafing vs. gravity well projectors-SW wins. strafleet perfect accuracy vs. obviously not perfect ST accuracy AND jamming-SW wins. Any fed weapon vs. planetary shiled-SW wins. ST sensors and communications vs. SW sensors and holonet-SW wins. "two torps can take out an ISD!" vs. User099 is a complete idiot-SW wins. "We can use <insert technobabble lost tech heree> vs. we dont need LOST tech (ie death stars galaxy guns ect.)-SW wins. redshirts vs napoleonic army-napoleon (and thus stormies) wins. Kilingons and there all powerful ba'leths vs. a group of men with baseball bats-the american passtime, BASEBALL! wins. defiant vs. " the defiant could avoid TL fire!" vs. The MF and fighters couldnt and they are a hell of a lot dsmaller and more manuverable-SW wins. "borg can adapt to anything vs. species 8407 and transpahics. "Borg are intellegent tactical thinkers!" vs. brog are mindless zombies that walk aroudn like extras from night of the living dead whose idea of tactis is to park there cube in the middle of a battle and fire randomly one at a time, at opposing ships-SW wins. "invincible" hologram soliders vs. ion cannon-SW wins. "we got Q" vs. and we got a whole lotta super weps out there.

And as for ST commanders-
Picard (cant we all just get along?)vs. empire, SW wins
Sisko <insert long winded self-righteous speech here> vs. empire-SW wins.
Janeway (audible groan) erm....SW wins
Kirk vs. empire and we may have a problem-its a toss up

See a patern? if u dotn i understand why u read braile, that sall folks-latah

Well there are some things which have given ST an Edge
Subspace Transporters where half a good gambit except oops SW already knows about subspace and knew about Subspace for 25k Years
Acutal Warp Strifing has never been a problem in my mind for the simple reason that what is Warp strifing? Its an Alpha Strike with the added bonus of you get to run away instead of stand there helpless for a few moments if your attack failed
Problem was SW can one-shot Kill ST ships sooo :D

The main problems ST has always had is
One-Its much Smaller
Two-Its been in space for a much shorter period of time
Three-Ground Army? Whats a Ground Army?

To quote the classic NATO joke
One Soviet Tank Commander met another in France one day, The first turned to the second and asked
So who won the Air War?

While fancy tecknology, and pretty lights are all well and good, The ability to nuke a planet or an entire system useful its always been the Common Soilder, the Man on the ground, He is the only one who can Capture and Hold Ground

I just thought of something, as Wong has pointed out before, Feds suck at steering ships manually(Riker was like the best pilot in Starfleet) and they need computer locks to fire weapons. What happens when Jamming screws these things up? The term fish in a barrel come to mind.

Worse, what happens when the View screen breaks?

Nuh-uh. If it breaks, the whole bridge will suffer explosive decompression. Explosive decompression --- the great equalizer (unless you're up against stormies).

Sometimes, actually, SF officers DO target ships manually (with no apparent loss in accuracy). However, the main point is well taken. SF ships are, in general, too dependent on their computers and sensors, by SW standards.

Hmmm. Actually, in SF, at least, they DO have viewscreens which are not DIRECTLY connected with the outside of the ship. Their hulls are still weak as last week's Enterprise episode, but at least they would not have to worry about that. In SW, SOME of the windows on SOME ships are real, but most are just viewscreens (ref. ESB, RotJ). I'm not arguing that SF has any advantage, here. Any capship in SW is more than a match for a Federation fleet. I'm just saying that the viewscreens are not real windows (ref. Insurrection).

In the new ST movie the E-E's view screen is blasted away and an ensign is lost before the emergency shields or something can activate.
