I like the Miranda-style ships; that is, those lacking separate engineering hulls. The Akira is my favorite of them.

TOS era for me; Excelcior being the top dog in my book.

Excelcior
Centuar
Connie (refit)
Miranda
Shelly
Constellation

I do like some of the TNG stuff;

Intrepid (not to say I liked Voyager as a show)
Steamrunner
Akira
Defient

I really like the Klingon ships, myself, especialy the Neg'Var. Asside from the fact that it brought down DS9s shields in just a couple of hits, it looks very impressive when in the middle of a Klingon task force.

The Neghvar did not singlehandedly collapsed DS9's shields. DS9 was under fire from hundreds of Kilgon ships before the Neghvar opened up with her powerful disruptor cannons.

I really like the Ferengi D'Kora Class Marauder. With ships like that they really could have been awsome space pirates.

I like the Dominion ships the best of the lot. Klingon and Romulan ships look fragile with their wings and necks, the Federation ships are bizarre and look completely unbalanced (how do you make the thrusters go through it's center of mass?). The Dominion ships look the most workable of the lot, though Cardassian ships are a close second.

Marauder's have also been shown to be able to thump the Enterprise in a fight, which given that the E-D was the most powerful Federation ship at the time of the encounter, is impressive.

It makes you wonder why the Ferengi were portrayed as such pussies in DS9 when in early TNG, they were rough. I never liked that change.

Now that I think about it, I do like some Federation starships. I like the Defiant and the Runabouts. Those are some handsome ships and the Runabouts, at least, don't have quite the same odd plastic toy quality other Federation ships do.

Wait... are you saying that the Runabouts are more tacky and plastic looking than the Akira and Enterprise-E?

Well the First Contact Enterprise does not look like it is made of plastic. The Insurrection Enterprise sucked. Even Brdigecommander computer game Enterprise looks better than that.

Its hard to say. The one time they really got on the E-D and hammered her the E-D was running with shields and weapons down in simulation mode. They ignored the Ferangi thinking it was a sensor phatom which let them close in and hammer the crap out of her, taking out key systems with easy strikes.

Appart from that, we don't exactly know. The Mararuder in 'The Last Outpost' I belive fired on the E-D at one point but didn't even dent her shields. And the aformentioned Marauder ran like hell when they thought a fully powered Federation Starship was inbound for blood.

Oh and that episode with 'Picards Son'. The crew of the Marauder rather quickly turned against their "Damon" when the E-D was found to be inbound in a bad mood.

But I do agree with the annoyence about the complete backflip of the Ferangi. I wouldn't have minded if Quark and Rom were simply a different type of Ferangi. Hell I would actualy LIKE a culture in Trek to show a varied specturm of characters. Rather then ALL being warriors. Or ALL insane capitalists. But I wish they had retained at least in part a tough and heavy Starfleet. Which would have made episodes like 'The Magnificant Ferangi' never happen...or happen VERY differently.

Huh, I always thought that Marauder's were roughly equals with the Enterprise-D based on the way that they were presented in TNG. It was clear that the Ferengi were set up originally as to be the Federation's opposite and it always seem like Marauders would have made a good fight, especially since we never actually saw them fight under normal conditions. In the situations we actually saw, there were special circumstances or a bat-shit Daimon that wasn't worth risking their lives to follow. That's the thing, in the situation where we've seen the Ferengi refuse to fight the Enterprise, there wasn't a hugely good reason to do so. After all, they couldn't guarantee they could ace the Enterprise and they weren't fighting over a prize that would be worth the ship getting badly damaged or destroyed, let alone they be killed. Keep in mind that the ship itself represents a serious amount of resources and moneymaking potential. After all, it's bad business calculus to follow barking Daimon Bok when there is nothing to gain and a substantially large amount to lose.

As to the change in DS9, Quark has always been a comic relief character. This lead to a bad choice. They decided to make all Ferengi characters comic relief characters, because they figured they could do Ferengi based episodes as comic counterbalances to their "heavy" episodes. The problem is that this is completely different than the Ferengi of TNG, who weren't pussies. I see to remember in the Last Outpost, they revealed that for their size, Ferengi were stronger than a human and had loads of courage. Of course, they collectively wet their pants in the face of that T'Kon guy, but they weren't nearly as bad as you'd see in DS9.

I voted Federation:
There are some which are Ugly, Galaxy and Nebula, some I like, Enterprise-A, Avenger / Miranda, Defiant, Sovereign, and Akira

The Dominion battlecruiser and the battleship is the best looking Dominion ships. Attack ships look too much like bugs.

I find that to be one of the better features about it.

Bugs are generally portrayed as being utilitarian and efficent in shape. Plus it makes the swarming much cooler.

My favorite ship design was the Constitution class, but for different races overall I'd have to go with the Romulans, whose ships I've always liked.

I chose Federation, they have the most consistently appealing ships. Runners up are Romulans, love the Warbird, but nothing else...? Come on, give me more! Then oddly, I found I really liked the Aquatic's ships from last week's ENT episode! I was surprised, but pleasantly so 8)
