Another Rick Berman project.
We know where this is going already.

Is there some immutable reason why they won't fire that fucking no-talent hack?

Didn't you make a joke a while back about Berman and Braga being sith lords?Darth Wong wrote:Is there some immutable reason why they won't fire that fucking no-talent hack?
Mabye it's true and they're using the dark side to corrupt the weak minded paramount officials.
Hell, I can't think of a more rational idea right now. Can you?

Do Berman and Braga have any investment in Paramount?
If they had investments in the company, wouldn't that be an incentive to make good movies rather than driving the company's flagship franchise into the shitter?

Paramount is actually suffering more from generally lukewarm box office returns than low ratings for Star Trek.
I'm just saying that B&B might be large enough stock holders that it could prevent them being fired.

Only plausable reason? He must have pictures.....

I heard from somewhere that it's calculated that actually firing Berman would cost Paramount a lot of money since he's so...entrenched I guess you could say. But that's still no reason why they can't jam him into a position where he has little or no influence over trek. Let's just face it, Paramount has stopped giving a damn about the quality of trek.Darth Wong wrote:Is there some immutable reason why they won't fire that fucking no-talent hack?

His pet TV series has failed, so he's going to try and prop it up with an Enterprise movie? I guess Berman really wants to drive the franchise into the ground with a bang... after the failure of Nemesis, who knows how much fucking money they'll lose on some half-ass project without even the familiarity of a cast that's been around for over a decade.

Actually, it's questionable if it is an Enterprise project. Though I suppose if Enterprise gets cancelled, it'll give the cast something to do. And they even have the sets.
However, there has been word that the Star Trek project called Starfleet Command is looking for a writer. It could be that. And it has been brought up that that could be about Kirk's academy days. Which was something that had been bounced around.
As it stands, I'd say that in terms of consumer appeal, young Kirk is a better bet than the continuing adventures of Captain Archer.

from IMDB:
New 'Star Trek' Movie in the Works
Star Trek producer Rick Berman has confirmed that work has begun on developing a new theatrical Star Trek feature, which he has described, without elaboration, as a "prequel." "I am involved in the very early stages of what could be the next Star Trek movie," Berman told the British magazine Dreamwatch. "It's something I will be producing with two other producers."

I've read in a local sci-fi publication that the first will be about WW3. The second about the development of warp capability. The third features a young Ensign Kirk.
The second one looks the most appealing to me. Provided it's after Cochrane.

It's a better bet in terms of payoff, but there's also more to lose. If they blunder through it and fuck up with the character of Kirk, they'll piss off a lot of people.neoolong wrote:As it stands, I'd say that in terms of consumer appeal, young Kirk is a better bet than the continuing adventures of Captain Archer.

Yeah, but considering the fuckup with Archer, a chance at success may be better than what should be seen as a disaster.Uraniun235 wrote:It's a better bet in terms of payoff, but there's also more to lose. They made a good fuckup attempt at young Picard with the ridiculous Shinzon arc (remember the picture of Academy age Picard?) in Nemesis. I see no reason they'd fail to fuck up young Kirk.Uraniun235 wrote:It's a better bet in terms of payoff, but there's also more to lose. Givent the fact that this is going to be a prequel movie there is a good chance it will be a Enterprise movie.Actually, it's questionable if it is an Enterprise project. Though I suppose if Enterprise gets cancelled, it'll give the cast something to do. And they even have the sets.

It could be that Berman simply has friends in high places. I think he's been there for more than twenty years now; surely he's got some buddies who look out for him.Trogdor wrote:I heard from somewhere that it's calculated that actually firing Berman would cost Paramount a lot of money since he's so...entrenched I guess you could say.
