Yes. The pricking, the flogging, the dipping, etc.
Were such fancy execution methods as burning at the stake, entombing while still alive, public torture, or quartering used?
No.
Maybe not such *extreme* methods, but yes.
Did it attempt to convert an entire group of people to a different religion under the fear of death?
No.
They feared death as it was. They didn't have to convert because they were all the same religion to begin with.
Did it use methods like "drop accused in water. if accused floats, she is a witch"?
No.
See above. They also said, IIRC, that they would only die by hanging.
[I don't see why someone would claim that the Salem Witch Trials are worse than the Inquisition.
I don't see why they CAN'T in some areas. As a whole, though, the Inquisition may have been far worse. *points again to time and span*

Well, torture was used only against men, IIRC. And not as fancy as burning one's hair, etc.

Maybe not such *extreme* methods, but yes.

You just contradicted yourself.

They could hae tried to convert the Indians (go on a crusade, perhaps)

Hanging is not extreme as compared to the Iron Maiden, the Grille, the Rack, the Stake, and vbarious other methods. Two ways to win in hanging: strangulation, or a broken neck. Both very simple.

Ys, true, but there is also getting your arms ripped out, being impaled several times simultaneously, getting burned to death, getting branded to death......there are more painful things that asphyxiation.

By length and time, yes, the Spanish Inquisition was worse. As far as method of determining who was a witch, Salem.

Nah, the Inquisition was much, much nastier about that. The rack, thumbscrews and all sorts of other methods. The people of Salem were amatuers compared to the Inquisition.

No, I meant because they would inict someone on the drop of a hat. They would hang them if tere were enough people that agreed...and that would generally not be too many.

Have you even read up on the Inquisition? They'd do it on the word of some undr torture. They'd ask for accusations. A hat didn't even have to drop for them to accuse you of heresy, judiasm, or witchraft.

They would do it in Salem just because someone did something to piss them off.

They would kill people at the drop of a hat. It's why they went down in history.

Fuck!

Have you read about the Inquisition? A favored tactic was to go into a village and ask for accusations. And it would turn into a get rid of the peoplee we don't like session. They'd do that and more! They'd use accusations obtained under torture, and ones obtained from enemies.

Read up and you'd see how ridiculous your claims are!

 We only spent a third of a semester on the Salem Trials in US History...and I will read up on the Inquisiton. Damn, what is this, kick Ver in the balls day? I KNOW that they would just get rid of the people that they don't like in the Inquisition, but people WOULD accuse each other in Salem for not doing a favor. Something as little as that. Nuances would cause them to accuse each other.

Verilon, are you even reading Stormy's posts? You're saying that the Salem witch trials did the same thing as the Inquisition.

Verilon, they'd do the same thing during the Inquisition. And things much worse! The fact that you're arguing the point shows you can't know too much about the Inquisition.

For the life of me, I can't understand why Verilon is minimizing the horrors of the Inquisition. I can understand some of his other stuff in the SLAM forum; he is a believer, and he wants to convince himself that he doesn't have to throw logic to the winds in order to continue being a believer. But this? It's just weird.
