I also like Rottweilers, though I wouldn't take one myself because I doubt I could give it the sort of upbringing it needs. But done properly, they're basically all soft lapdogs (except just a little bit bigger)

They make the _worst_ guard dogs tough. Every stranger is greeted like it's homecoming of a long lost family member

Newfoundlands, because after a few years of working in a vets it's the only breed of dog i can remember that didn't try to attack me at some point. They're also a big, soft, pile of fur, that despite a bit of slobber is just soooooo cute.

You guess wrong. I don't like them because they have an overabundance of energy. I have no problem with terriers, as you can see based on the fact that I own one.

Miniature fox terriers. Playful? Yep. Intelligent? Yep. Likely to rip your throat out if you poss them off? Yep.

And they've got a napoleon complex!

Icelandic sheepdog, no doubt. Found out about them in Denmark, and the one dog we have owned was one.

Both my dogs- Snowy (deceased- 2004) and Ollie (got him as an 8-week old pup on 1 October 2006) are German Shepherds, so it's clear where my loyalties lie. They're cute, playful, and at the same time still scary to ... enemies. Snowy was white as ... snow and friendly as hell and he still scared people.

I would've mentioned I got a new dog if I had the means to transfer pics onto this PC, but I'm lacking that capability at the moment. Suffice to say I have a great picture of Ollie looking incredibly serious (for a pup) and one looking hysterical-with-laughter. It kills me everytime I compare them.

I love the looks of the Finnish Spitz and the Shiba Inu. And I adore Huskies.

But I had chihuahua's and a border collie/husky mix growing up.

But yeah my dream dog would definatly be a husky. I'd just need a house with a yard for the dog. (those first thing in the morning bathroom visits)

Labs. I bought one last June and just fell in love with the breed. A friend of mine has one too and they're just so friendly and loving. Mine's too friendly, which I'm okay with, but she's smart too so she trains very well. I had her potty trained in under a month and she can sit, shake, stay, come, fetch and more or less heel and she's not a year old.

I'm definitely a dog person so some of my other experiences with dogs have left me with good impressions. The highlights were my grampa's German Shepherd, a friend's Golden Retriever, another friend's Boxer and then the Dachshund I had growing up.

The most loving dogs I've ever known were Rottweilers. I also have a soft spot for Labs and Malamutes. The former for their brains, the latter because theyre just beautiful animals.

I like Irish wolfhounds and other big dogs, but I'm also partial to collies and shelties as well as some breeds of terrier. I generally loathe chihuahuas and other such matchbox sized yappers.

I still prefer cats over dogs for my own pets, though.

terrific dogs. Big, smart, easy to train. Contrary to a popular belief, they are not inherently aggressive.

I've had a lab, rottweiler and a doberman. Though I think I liked the Rott the best. I'm also partial to pugs.

We always had mutts when I was a kid, so I can't really comment much on breeds, but I get along pretty well with my girlfriend's Boston Terrier. I was expecting him to be extremely loud and energetic, but he hardly barks ever and ran out of Puppy Crack around the age of three. Plus he's a great size for the apartment (~30#) and rarely attempts to eat more than his own weight in a day.

I like mutts. Good old mongrelized canis familliaris.

Too many purebreds are inbred to the point of... well, I guess I'd call it stupid immorality. The dogs suffer from genetically based disease and malfunction.

This is in no particular order of favorites.

Labs. You just can't go wrong with them on average. They're a great breed. Our second seeing eye dog trainee was a lab.

Aussies. The two colored eye guys freak me out, but the one we had had both brown eyes so no problems there. Great energy, eager to please, and if you train them, a wonderful companion. This is the smallest sized dog I'd be willing to go for, though. This breed was the first dog we had and the first seeing eye trainee. Came back to us because he bolted into traffic with his blind companion due to lightning during training. Other than that, there was nothing wrong with him and came fully trained (after that first year we had him, of course).

Newfoundland. I would feel selfconscious about having a Newfie down this far south, but if I lived up north with a plot of land (say Illinois where I will eventually inherit a 150 acre farm), I'd have myself a Newfie. Technically have never had one, but always wanted to try.

It looks like a Tibetan (sp?) Mastif would also be a great choice for me, but without experience I can't say for sure if it's a go. And again, it may be too hot for them down here.

I like big collie sheepdogs best, we had a really sweet dumb old dog called Arthur that we adopted after we found him wandering on a road in yorkshire. He was so lovely, so good with kids, so gentle, all but invulnerable.

Short-haired terrier breeds. Easy to care for and clean up after, if a little hyper at times.

Whilst we're talking about dogs, anyone remember that faux debate show, I think it was, Cross Balls, where they'd make up wierd arguments and the actors would play extremists on it, if so, do you remember where they had a guy talking about German Shepherds like a Nazi would the aryan race?

Pomeranian for when I am at the pc.. "my freind's mom as one, and when I'm at jordans house over a multi hour LAN, its good to have a tiny mascot.

For active work its a draw between the Alaskan Husky and the Alaska Mamaute

Sheppard and sheppard crosses, also rotties. My rotties were the most loyal dogs ever and would defend me over their own siblings.

My favorites are labradors and golden retrievers. They're big, they're fun, they're smart and trainable (I think; I've never owned one because at six people my family's a bit too big for pets) and they're really friendly. I don't like small dogs that much, but I've met a couple of really affectionate Bichons, which are more sedate and probably lower maintenance than the bigger dogs, but still very sweet. Then there are chihuahuas, which I don't think I'd consider one of my favorite breeds, but they've got to be the funniest dogs I've ever run across. They're hyperactive and completely nuts. I think there must be a Napoleon complex in there somewhere.

I like "designer dogs". In other words mutts, and big dogs too, cause if your gonna get a dog, come on get a dog. Mutts are cool cause then your dog is (most of the time) unique. for example my current dog looks like a golden retriever who went goth and dyed his hair black, though he's a bit bigger and sronger looking.
