24 Day 7 [Spoilers]

Post by Admiral Valdemar »

So, Damien and other Bauer power hour fans, what's the verdict on the opening to the first new day in some time? And also, thoughts on Redemption?

Well, I'm not a regular fan, but my immediate reaction was "AHAHAHAHA BAUERPWNED" at the sight of Bauer having to sit at a desk in a clean suit twiddling his thumbs uncomfortably...

Anyone else get a bad feeling if they noticed that Brannon Braga was an co-executive producer?

The whole Almeida business sounds too convenient for me, especially given that it was revealed so early. Sounds like a whole set up at least on Tony's end.

And I thought Sangala didn't have any resources, at least according to Redemption?

And what's to stop Taylor from nuking Sangala if Juma and Dubaku go ahead and kill a few hundred thousand Americans by causing a meltdown at a nuclear plant or something?
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

Perhaps I'm being a little cynical given how many Republican mouthpieces praise 24 and its 'realism', the fact that its on FOX e.t.c.

But is anyone concerned that the new President will become a stand in for Obama in some ways? A new 'change' Liberal President who will be mocked at not being able to 'defend America' or something?

I just have this nagging thought in the back of my mind...

Anyway.

Here's to hoping this season will be better then the last...again.

Haven't seen season 7 yet, but Redemtion was ok. It was nice to see Bauer not torture anybody for once.

Although the "cowardly frenchman" caricature of a U.N. agent was just painful to watch.
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

As a programmer I hardly make that a assumption when the only singular references I've seen to it so far are either by its official name(CIP Firewall Project), by people who just aren't educated in network security on any level and saying 'firewall' just makes it easier for them to reference it, or by network security specialists talking down to those people that don't understand a thing about it.

Though yes, IMO, that 'back door' was slightly too easy to make. But eh...they can have it. The day is fun so far.

Eh, Jack's been through enough shit for a court to really ruin his day. To him, it's a welcome reprieve more than anything. It at least shows he expects to be tried for what he did and isn't above the law, even in extraordinary circumstances.

Rick Berman was the bigger problem for ST, but it did make me pause for thought, yes.

I knew Almeida wouldn't be a big part of the story, nor the Die Hard 2/4 style story. You can never gauge a full day from the initial threat. I'm unsure about the resources comment though. Have to rewatch Redemption.

As for nuking Sangala, I don't think that's a very effective way of conducting humanitarian missions.

I also don't see the fuss behind the CIP issue. We only know that it is a system or standard that government operated sectors use for connecting networks. The unit Latham made was obviously using his knowledge of the system to bypass it, rather than break a whole system and access it all. It'd more like every PC being on Windows, then having Gates abducted and forced to write a system into some hardware that can exploit the weaknesses known.

I kinda like the fact that it's taken Tony's traditional role and turned it on its head. Instead of him running point from base, he's spending at least the first chunk of the season in the field directly involved. I was kinda disappointed that the fbi agent got that desperate that fast to catch Jack...she was making a good foil for him.

My only comment is that they filmed this WAAAAAAYYYYYY back because National Park (in use for the entire 2008 baseball season) was visibly still under construction when they are racing away from the FBI detention/interrogation site parking garage. So those external shots were at least a year old.

When the goon in the first episode stated that the CIP device was kept slipping out of phase I remarked to myself "What the fuck is this? Star Trek?" sarcastically.

An episode or two later I noticed the "Executive Producer Brannon Braga" and "Written by Brannon Braga and Manny Coto" and all became clear.

I can only surmise that meant keeping connected to the target computer. If it was overheating, it probably dropped the connection several times.

I'm hoping there isn't any more Braga antics though.

So is Renee dead or not?

There was a silent clock, but I also heard breathing.

Also, why the fuck are there no gas masks in the panic room?

I'm unsure having just seen it, the breathing does make it seem like she's alive but otherwise screwed. As for masks, the room had no food either and panic rooms are only ever a temporary stopgap anyway. The place looked half-built at that.

I just noticed the writing credit the other night. Does anyone else find their enjoyment of the show diminished knowing Braga is a writer. My first reaction upon seeing his name in the first episode was not, shall we say, one of joy.

Interesting how they name dropped Henderson just like that. Wonder if there's more coming about that?

Perhaps; although we needed an explanation as to how/why Tony is where he is. And not.. you know.. dead and all. :)

Well I am, too. Especially the "dark" music played when he looked at Jack after Jack turned away.

this smells fishy. And I'm not talking about the contents of Baldrick's apple crumble.

I still am suspicious of Tony. Though now that Emerson is apparently dead, I can't figure out who he's working for.

I still think that Philip Bauer is out there somewhere, for the record.

Any pilots care to give a take on the "Hijacked air traffic control able to alter two passenger plane course to collide in clear visibility" scenario? Atleast with the demonstration there was fog.

We never did see Philip die, nor the rest of the Bluetooth Gang, for that matter. They easily controlled the US under Logan's administration, who's to say this tinpot African dictator isn't being played by a third party in the US?

Given the speed and traffic in major areas like a city, the chances can be high even with good visibility (there's still cloud cover). There have been more than a couple of real close calls around places like Heathrow, for instance. One episode of Spooks actually had the plot of a rogue faction of the government trying to dethrone the incumbent party at a time of crisis by having intel. officers amend flight plans over London, one such plane later being Air Force One.

Given the business with Tony, I actually am expecting Philip to show up again. As for the rest of the Bluetooth gang, I just reckoned they went to where Mandy went. Hopefully Mandy will show up again sometime.
