Did I already reply in this thread? Oh well, I'll reply again. My height is a source of ongoing contention between my doctor and myself. She says I am 5'4". I say I am 5'7". At 26, I'm pretty sure I'm done growing. :|
After all, this is completely straightforward. What could possibly go wrong?

How can you get confused between 5'4 and 5'7? :?

She says her wall-chart thingy is right and everyone else's is wrong, with special reference to the department of transport. I say that if I'm taller than my mum, who is 5'5" but shorter than my uncle, who is 5'8" and a lot taller than my friend who is 5'3" and we have all been measured on numerous occasions in different places by different people and the doctor is the only one who is getting a different result, then it's her measurements that are fucked.

Also, one of these days, I am going to figure out why, despite having lived all my life in a country which uses the metric system, I insist on expressing human height in feet and inches. A lot of my friends do the same thing. Go figure.

6'5" or 192 cm. I only weight 166 lbs, so I'm tall and quite lanky. Luckily though, I can glare quite well, so I can still intimidate people. :p

Mmmm... is her chart thing in metric? Because maybe she's converting it wrong.

And yeah, I too like using feet and inches. They're more intuitive (sp?) and "ergonomic", while metric is more scientific and precise and stuff.

6' or as they say in the Star Wars universe, 182 cm. 32 years old. Still growing... in the wrong axis, of course.

5'8" (1.75m), at 18. Stopped growing on that axis at 14. The other took a few more years.

5'10''? Yeah, that's about right. What's weird is a bunch of my friends break the 6' mark. It makes me feel tiny.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

I really hate that notion.
The only reason you do this it is because you either live in Canada next to the US where they still use it and have been in regular contact with it, or some similar place where imperial is still not extinct. Not to mention the media.
UK folks have only recently converted as well.

Now for me who have never been influenced by the US system and it's horrible love for fractions I can say I think it's utterly counter-intuitive while the metric system is totally intuitive.

It's just how you where raised, there is no intristic intuitivity to the imperial system.
The only people who really use this argument are people who for some reason feel they have to defend it, this "it's more intuitive" stuff is like the first thing they respond with.

SDN has a considerable amount of people above the 1.8 metre mark, I notice.

I'm 168 cm (5'6"), weighing 56 kg, and am 15. My adult height should be between 175 and 178 cm.

6'3" (191cm), and since I've been that tall since I was 18 (I'm now 21) I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get any taller than that.

Eh, either 6' 0.5'' or 6' 1'' depending on who's measuring and with what yard stick. I'm 18 but in my family I should still have a few years of growth left, I might hit 6' 2'' eventually.

Oh and I weigh 155 lbs, so I'm rather thin :P

The odd thing is that at university I feel short. Very short. I am not at all used to this feeling :?
