[Vote] Title for SVPD

It is hereby suggested that the Senate decide what action should be taken against SVPD for the following offenses:

• broken record debating tactics
• refusal to address points made against him
• strawmanning opponets
• baseless accusations against his opponents
• outright lying
• moving goalposts

Those are the most heinous counts against him.

The Cindy Sheehan Arrest thread in N&P. Link to SVPD's first post in the thread, but it really gets going a couple of pages later.

Suggested punishment is title, either VI or WTPF. The Senators may suggest additional measures at their discretion.

Personally, I think the most appropriate title is VI and that no additional punishment is necessary. SVPD does have positive contributions, but seems to get in over his head and becomes unable to admit he is wrong if he gets pushed on some topics. In light of the positive contributions, I do not think things like removing avatar or sig privileges are justified unless behavior like in the evidence threads continues in the future.

When I first started reading his greatest hits, I thought "well, he overextends himself at times, but he's entirely non-notable otherwise." And then I read the rest of the thread, and witnessed how he retreated behind a smokescreen of flames without substance (lots of projecting of his own bad debating style on others,) and repeated and shrill declarations of his own victory.

So is he notably stupid enough for WTPF? No, not yet.

Does he demonstrate a sufficiently long history of banal idiocy for VI? That's surprisingly hard to say. When it got hot and heavy, he degenerated pretty quickly. For the moment though, I think I'm probably going to vote for the option of doing nothing just yet, but keeping a close eye on him otherwise.

WTPF is a bit excessive if the guy actually does contribute some points, because he doesnt osund like a troll the way you put it. But at the same time, I'm not sure VI is much better.. generally a VI doesn't contribute much either, and while maybe a step up from a WTPF, is still far from being even a "sub-standard" poster in this forum.

I also agree sig and avatar privelege remoavl is excessive. IMHO at this point he seems to occupy that zone kinda like Shep - a real pain in the ass alot of the time (at least on certain issues), but not an outright troll (although I know that's also a matter of who you ask...)

A title I think might be appropriate, but I'm not sure the "general purpose" titles might work here.

To be fair, and while I don't venture into the non-scifi forums much, it does seem that his sort of tactics (while not tolerated) seem to occur more frequently there, even among fairly veteran members. (I can recall a few issues in the non-scifi forums where certain other forum members might have acted that way..)

It strikes me what he is primarily guilty of is not knowing when to quit.. he irrationally "sticks to his guns" on an issue he feels very strongly about even when he's proven wrong. Alot of the issues in forums like SLAM or N&P get that way. (I'm actually kind of reminded of the "Jon Stewart" thread in the HoS atm.)

EDIT: Note that I'm just offering my "outsider" observation of the way those forums work. Its one of the reasons I don't participate in them much, but I could also be wrong about how they do operate.

Meh, while I can understand that he gets underneath certain peoples skin; I just don't see how he's a viable canidate for 'punishment'.

It seems SVPD's problem is that he paints himself into a corner and lashes out at anybody who tries pointing it out to him. So far, it would seem that the more appropriate action would be on any such occasion to immediately flush the thread involved into the HOS. A Village Idiot tag is appropriate if he starts resorting to the Wall of Ignorance tactic as a means to win debates through sheer exhaustion.
