As per a request by a constituent, I've been asked to bring this [:wtf:] to the attention of the Senate.

And I am well aware of the irony of this, as well...

Yes, a vote has been had to change Zor's username to Lay Zor, ie, "Laser". By a vote of 31 "Ayes", 3 "Nays", and 26 "WTF?" the rabble has passed this motion on their own. Image

What exactly are the current policies regarding name or title changes by choice, and does the Senate actually have anything to do with it?

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Titles are one thing, and there's some amusement to be had in the proposal for Zor; but the user his/her self has to request an actual name change.

Names aren't changed against a user's will.

If done without their knowledge, it would effectively the same as banning them. They wouldn't be able to sign on...

The Senate has had nothing to do with name changes and shouldn't. A change in user name is the affair of each individual user and the admins who will implement it. If an individual wishes to conduct a poll in Testing, they are free to do so. It does not mean that any results of such a poll will necessarily be implemented, but that is actually something that will depend on how merciful the admins are. It is not at all unheard of that fairly unflattering results have been implemented simply because the user was foolish enough to put it up for a poll vote and got a ridiculous result.

A case of being careful what you wish for because you just might get it, as it were.

EDIT: But since this is something someone else started, it is completely irrelevant and any poissible consequences are likely to fall on the initiator of said poll if it annoys the powers that be. I can't even muster enough effort to give this a rating of 'bleh' or 'meh', much less anything else.
