For once, science triumps over illogic!

*EDIT* Shit, I can't spell  */EDIT*

A federal judge has ruled that the government must release the so-called "kennewick man" to scientists, instead of giving the body to the local Indians who have not proven any lineage.

According to that last line, you may have broken the law.

The judge decided to put scientific progress over a regulation which, IMFUO, was blown out of proprtion to keep the bones from being researched.

I find it interesting how Native peoples are extremely eager to prevent scientific research on remains that are found in North America. In my experience, they get extrememly twitchy when it's suggested that they weren't the first peoples in North America. Maybe they're afraid that those suggestions are right?

I guess it's a victory for science.
Too bad that the site where they found the bones was destroyed by the govt.

Yes, well no victories are total I suppose. In any case, this could very well demonstrate that the Indians were not the first settlers in North America, which could stop all of the damn entitlements and bullshit, not to mention casinos :P

Perhaps the Vikings, who are documented to have been around the area rather early.

The bones resemble Patrick Stewart?

So, can we expect the next ST movie to feature Enterprise-E to crash-land on an ancient Earth, killing Picard?

Suck that, Indians!

I'm sorry, I just hate how they keep harping on how culturally significant everything is to them. Then again, I dislike a lot of ethnic groups for repeatedly claiming that valuable scientific evidence is culturally so important that it cannot be studied properly. I get especially frustrated when it deals with non-living things, but bodies are important enough.

I read an interesting study that said that people who's remains appear to be a cross between Aboriginal and African peoples settled in South America before the "Native Americans" arrived.

The Vikings were in North America 20 000 years ago? I was lead to believe that they landed in Newfoundland around 1000 AD. The Native Americans came over from Asia via the land bridge a long time before that.

The Vikings have been documented being there only a thousand years ago. Native American Indians have been there since the ice age.

You mean Australian aborigials? C'mon, how much sense does that make? If it was one or the other it might make sense but even then, how would they get there? Sailing to America? There is talk of about how people back thousands of years ago were able to cross the ocean with the "crudest of boats", but even then it was a large reed boat with a sail and several people could walk around in it. I doubt that they would have had that 40 000 years ago (yes some people push back the Indians arriving here that long). Really, I don't know what you people have against Native American Indians.
