Crying, frustration, outbursts for no reason? Does she have trouble focussing? Are there major problems in her life that would cause her to seek solace in something like that? People who turn to religion usually do so because they cannot find reassurance about the evils of reality within reality.
Uh oh.....That sounds like her, THIS is not good...

As for the 8-ball, you could set up a series of tests to prove that it's not capable of predicting anything. Of course, if she comes back with the old bible quote of 'thou shalt not put the lord thy 8-ball to the test', then you have a tad more work to do.[/quote]

She's not that far gone....yet...as to claim the 'thou shalt not put the lord thy 8-ball to the test'. However, I did try to prove to her quite adamently that it was a coincidence, she doesn't believe me. And the amount of times God and faith is getting in on what discussions we do have is getting quite.....annoying, Anyone else have any ideas? Do you guys REALLY want another Religious Fundie running around polluting the gene pool?!?! And trust me, she plans on having LOTS of kids *Shiver*

Okay, so she's beyond reason. When people have impactful emotional or mental problems, reality *isn't* their anchor. That's the point. People need religion because it's an anchor for explaining their lives. People attach themselves to all sorts of strange things, but religion has a sense of credibility because so many people believe in it, so a person with emotional problems can latch onto it and feel that they *can't be criticized for it*, because there are people out there who will say, 'she's justified in her beliefs', and so can entrench themselves in calling on gods, and not doing anything about that which really bothers them (like people who went 'back to the church' after 9/11 and praying for answers to their shaken faith in their own safety, instead of going to a therapist to deal with their problem). I'd say she should seek teen (I'm assuming she's a teen) counseling for emotional problems. Not to cure her of religion as much as to get to the root of her NEED for such a support system, or emotional cushion.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Ah, she's just fucked in the head. What she needs is to get fucked elsewhere. The really dirty kind of fuck, where you hear yourself screaming things that would be censored on HBO.

Not too helpful Mike. . . quite possibly true, but not too helpful :D

Cyran, I'd go with what Lagmonster said. If it is really that bad, there may be some genuine problems that need to be sorted out. Now there are actual organisations out there set up to help people to deal with this kind of thing (i.e. people that are wondering if someone they care about isn't firing on all cylinders mentally). I'd suggest doing a bit of research and trying to get in touch with one of those - an internet discussion board, populated by people like me who know less than they think they do, probably isn't the best place to go for advice on how to deal with an emotionally unstable friend. . .

Those organisations can also give you a much better handle on the actualy gravity of the situation, what your options are if there is a genuine problem, and what the likely outcomes are if you do try to do something. Hope things work out. . .

Sounds sort of like a "Grudge Fuck", the kind that fucks some sense into people and is propelled by pent up agravation/frustration or something along those lines.

i'd strongly suggest not having her go to "teen mentors" or "councillors". forum board rooms might be ok but if she's anything like me she'd take out an uzi and blow up the "mentors". though i hope u don't hang round people like me i can be a bad influence. though to the majority of my friends i think i'm a good influnce. i don't talk a lot just type a lot on forums :D

None of my friends are like you...because I take that job for all of them. I really doubt however that she will admit she has a problem and probably won't go to a councillor. Damned religion....
