Re: Fusion reactor explosion.
Same with the Longknife/Jump Universe fusion reactors, whose plasma also provides thrust for the ships they're on.
"Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone amongst God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him, drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of Death.."

Re: Fusion reactor explosion.
Less just simply reactor design and more of reactor design (as some reactor designs can only hold a certain density of plasma) and plasma density.SpottedKitty wrote: ↑2019-01-27 12:07pm Isn't that a case of very different reactor designs? The ITER-style reactors mentioned upthread use magnetic containment on a low-density plasma. Honorverse reactors (the ones on large capital ships, anyway) use gravitic containment with a much higher energy density — that's partly why they go kaboom in such an impressive way when containment fails.
