Phasing (object passing through objects)

Post by Shrykull »

I read somewhere on Mike's site here that the only reason solid objects can't pass through each other is because electrons repel electrons so even though atoms are mostly empty space it still doesn't work, how would phasing make it possible? And I was just wondering out of curiousity, what happens in such a physical change as cutting a piece of paper with scissors? Do the electrons of the iron/steel come in between the electrons of the paper causing the paper atoms to push apart from each other, causing the paper to seperate?

"Phasing" is just meaningless Star Trek technobabble bullshit.

Imagine making a bunch of super-magnetic pinballs and then sticking them together in a wedge shape. Now, imagine pushing this wedge shape through a mass of weakly magnetic pinballs stuck together. What happens?

Granted, this analogy is not precise. However, you should hopefully get the general idea. Atoms repel one another, so the question upon impact becomes: which object's atoms are more tightly stuck to one another?
