Simon, I'll be honest, we are at the "start whenever you dang well please" phase... As far as I am concerned... the game HAS started.... I am just starting it 2000 years ago ;P

I mean a lot of us are stressed and feeling burnt out from recent events, so no reason to feel even MORE pressure from the game.

Simon: I'm fine with that as well, one of the very advantages of forums roleplay is that sort of thing is possible.
Elheru: I really like the flavour you've managed to put through :)

Current working map.. Waiting on Lonestar to finish his OOB before putting him on there, and then we can claim a few adjacent hexes (you don't need one for every planet; the hexes are many lightyears across and can contain a number of stars) and call it done. I'm personally going to have just two; my core worlds in 0807 and colony zone in 0808. If anyone wants any stellar phenomena marked out on the map I'm happy to do that too; right now it's just the Nashtari nebula (which I claim nowhere near all of).

I like it, and I'm guessing pointing out the similarity between RKFC and the other KFC is a bad idea in-character :P

Also sure some (but not all) Endeavour characters are going to have a two spidermen pointing at each other moment when they come across the Holy Empire...

So, meandering in all late and shit, where would a hypothetical person find... information, both in terms of crunch as well as setting?

In terms of crunch, the rules are here with an ongoing editing version here - if there's any contradiction, the first link takes priority, but there shouldn't be. Check out various orders of battle in the OOB thread for examples. The most recent game map should be on this page of this thread too - it's missing two players since they haven't been rolled for yet, but is otherwise up-to-date.

The setting is mostly vague; there's some bits and pieces in the various threads - particularly the pre-game, OOB and main game threads - but the gist of it is as follows: there's several human-descended polities*, Earth having sent out a few dozen colony fleets for as-yet-unknown reasons, and two thousand years before the present day in-game there was a war ("The War In Heaven") that generally messed up the galaxy a bit. Other than that, everyone starts with not much contact between the various players (how much so is up to the players involved - I imagine that cluster of states up in the mid-north-west might know a fair bit about each other) for a bit of an age-of-exploration feel.

*You're not restricted to just playing humans, of course.

Hmm. Just off the cuff, combat turns being roughly an hour long, a fleet taking a day to cross one hex, and that being 12 combat turns makes about as much sense as reactive armor on a football bat.

Separately, I'm not seeing anything on what Improved Technology either does specifically, or what it costs.

Improved Technology is the category containing Improved Shipyards - yes, it's weird it's a category of one but it's there for if other Improved Technology things come along; Improved Tech Cache from the full-complexity proposal being one of them.

The other thing I'm less certain of; it might just be an abstraction that was a hold-over from the original 2k8 rules or I deleted a line somewhere by accident.

I hadn't even noticed that. Let's see what we can do here...

Aaah, I see what you're going for with the categories. Might want to separate out categories from list entries from a formatting perspective, there and elsewhere, save others the confusion I just faceplanted into.

Yeah, formatting doesn't carry over properly between Google Docs and the Wiki, so it was low on my priority list. That and I'm lazy :P I'll format the Docs version at some point in the nebulous future. Thanks for flagging it up, though.

There's also a typo in the System Defenses section, which makes the system substantially more confusing than it already is.
That means a nation with 100 points in system defenses, with 25 points of planets and 50 points of ships in-system, would have that 100 point fleet plus 12 patrol boats.

As examples... here is what I did with 1600 production points:

1600
Durandal Class Corvette 50 in total / 10 x 50 = 500 points
[50] Torpedo Boat 07+2H+1R

Packard Class Destroyer 25 IN TOTAL / 25 x 20 = 500 points
[10] Front line Offensive Destroyer 15+2H+3R
[10] Dedicated Escort and PD unit 12+3C3+2H+3J
[05] Spy Vessel and Dedicated Scout 10+5C3+2H+3S

Desoto Class Cruiser 8 in total / 8 x 50 = 400 points
[04] Front Line Offensive Cruiser 44+4H+2R
[04] Fast Battle Cruiser 42+4H+4R

Tucker Class Cruiser 4 in total / 4 x 50 = 200 points
[04] Command Cruiser 40+3C3+4H+3J

Fixed that typo, and tried to make that section a little less confusing - I don't think it worked. I'll play around with it a bit more.

Just ask if you need any help/see anything else.

Will do. Took me a couple reads, but I got what you were laying down.

Poked at the formatting a bit as well, but not a full overhaul. Also - and this is generally an open offer - poke me on the doc if you want edit access; if nothing else you can leave comments, then. EDIT: Just changed it so anyone can comment, since that was an option I literally just found...

Also have a link to my full OOB
for reference, totally not showing off my fleet, definitely just for reference... :P

That must have been a victim of the editing hackjob that had to be done when the players voted to get rid of the combat modifiers. Improved Technology lets you exceed the points limit on technology (i.e. sensors, stealth, hyperdrives, etc) by 1 point per 10 points spent on the attribute, the normal limit being 10. So if you drop 10 points on improved tech, your sensors (or whatever) can go to 11. I'll put that in; the actual rules text probably got taken out because it used Improved Defense as an example or something.

For reference, the rules are an edited-down modification of the rules from STGOD 2k8, found here. I'd rather have used the whole system, but that's been hashed out and there's no point going over it again.

Edit: Looking over it, it seems that Improved Tech Cache was just removed at some point and the category stayed even though that meant there was only one thing in the category. Not sure why we did that.

Hmm. Back to the drawing board. Ever have one of those times when you write up an entire nation that's really fascinating, then realize that you just want it to exist, not to be the one playing it?

Improved Tech Cache can be re-added, I've already done so with the Google Doc version*. I'm not sure why it was removed in the first place. Probably a victim of moving things around at some point back in October, and I just missed it because I was focussed on other parts of the rules? Anyway - since nothing's happened in-game that would be affected by it, I suppose it should be fine for people to retroactively take it? I'm not, for the record.

On that note, I'll actually post what my National Points are assigned to in the OOB thread, along with ship breakdowns and army assignments - saves people trying to parse my increasingly-complicated spreadsheet XD

White Haven, I've had the problem where, since coming up with Endeavour, I've been like "oh but I could play [idea] or [other idea]!" so I know what you mean. Luckily, playing Endeavour is fun and I can just slam any other ideas I get into it with minimal handwaving.

*I might change the name, since "Improved Tech Cache" was linked to the setting of 2k8.
