I've survived floating it, since I had no money at the time.

But the safest bet is a ferry.

Hey, when you're a farmer and blew all your money at Matt's General Store, sometimes you have no choice. And I made it about 20% of the time, too, when I shouldn't (not a single damn river was under the limits to "not ferry" per your rules).

Granted one of my party drowned and I'm lucky nothing ever broke because I lost most of my parts (I think I had 1 wagon axle left) but it's still entirely possible to make it to Oregon without once ferrying.

Oh sure its possible but you get more points for keeping everyone alive through to the end so I tend to avoid floating in all but those situations where ferries aren't available and fording is right out as an option.

The Ferryman, well actually the ferryman of the dead. And not even Dalton has died yet...

Seriously, Caulk and Float. If you don't, I will start my own Oregon Trail thread with the express purpose of seeing how many pioneers we can kill within the first page.

We want Dwarf Fortress level body counts. Chop chop!

If you're trying to kill someone off, why not just ford the river?

Because they're pussies! Me and Uraniun and you are clearly the only ones brave enough to do it!

Okay, gang, here is the dealio. I can't update this until after monday at the very least. I am working all weekend on a film shoot. So after the weekend I will tally votes and write the update. You have until midnight Pacific Standard Time to vote.

Also, remember that winter is approaching quickly and the ferry will take 6 days before we can even cross.

I'm not normally into gay porn, but could you autograph a copy for me?

Ferry. Seriously folks, if everybody dies now, then we can't continue the game and watch the characters suffer more. We still have more rivers along the way.

Besides, ferries are cool.

This is going a lot better than it did for me when I just played it. Everything was fine until a thief stole 17 oxen, then the remaining ox died and I was stuck 10 miles from the nearest fort for four months, until someone would finally trade me for a new ox. Then the wife and the baby died, but the rest of us made it to Oregon over a year after we left Missouri. Only got 1334 points, though.
