Thinking on it is doesn't appear that Indhopal and San Dorado truly have much in common anymore. The two nations have wildly different political systems and so on; the anti foreign influence bit of the FTO seems to be the main thing that kept us close. Back when we were apposing the whole world no differences between us were too great, only the final goal mattered!

Most likely result of all this: Indhopal becomes an ally of Japanistan! (Along with massive amounts of finger pointing, recriminations, perhaps a few riots and an industrial espionage campaign.)

*shrug* We are more than capable of supplying San Dorado with nuclear weapons, or even set up a local facility.

Still, we do *not* want the Japanistanis sticking their dicks into Frequesue. As if the previous crises weren't bad enough, the Tian Xians at least are far away in goddamn Messica while those Japanistanis are right next door to *us*.

Well, we can "befriend" Japanistan.... I'm still waiting for a reply from Japanistan on my invitation though.

Because They are not affiliated with the MESS or CATO, who are the powers currently chopping up Frequesue for their own purposes. What Indhopal fears more than anything else is a return to the colonial days which seems to have already happened over most of the continent.

Indhopal would also be looking for a defensive pact more than anything with Japanistan. If Japanistan demands puppetdom for an alliance it isn't happening. The question is, given the anti "old world powers" sentiment in Indhopal where else could I go?

Plus just having nukes doesn't seem to be enough in this world. To really safeguard yourself you seem to have to have the ability to really devastate the opposition as the possibility of losing a few cities just doesn't seem to deter anyone. Japanistan can provide the strategic punch Indhopal thinks it needs for security.

Indhopali analysts apparently cannot distinguish between '19th century colonial overlords' and 'modern alliance of consenting nations with massive economic benefits'. Oh well, hysteria in politics is hardly a new thing after all.

Concerning Indhopal and the NFT (please don't call us San Dorado, we're not lording it up over Coilerburg or anything), it's always been an alliance of convenience kept intact mainly by our mutual enemies. Now that our definitions of what constitutes an enemy are beginning to drift apart that naturally puts strain on the relationship, although frankly I think there's more than enough common ground left to still keep the ball rolling for some time.

Indhopal has always been a bit out there as far as the old colonial powers have been concerned. The popular opinion on the ground in Indhopal is a bit like the popular opinion in the middle east; everything is result of foreign plots, etc. And in Indhopal, these people elect delegates to the parliament.

Some are still playing it cool, hence the president wants to continue the current relationship and expand economic cooperation. Plus such close ties mean any belligerent action by CATO, or even the MESS, hurts the NFT's bottom line and thus gives them a strong incentive to avoid conflict

Also sorry for always lumping San Dorado and the NFT together. Guess I'm not fully used to it yet as the NFT really got going when I was out of the game.

I actually have to come up with a proposal that I don't have sell my soul to get first  .

Though honestly I am leaning towards a straight up defensive pact.

This game still has lots of potential. Come on folks, it's not dead and not even dying yet :) Not to mention that the MESS is no longer the absolutely superior, "nobody don't do anything" block.

And would be quite the international incident, as well. Given Indhopali concerns, him saying that, even with the "just kidding" thing at the end? Um, yeah. Your diplomats suck, Shroom.

I remember that (paraphrased) Reagan-era radio gaffe...

Waycool. As to Japanistan, remember I'm not playing it like Skimmer; you get to see a bit of the inner workings and decisions and rationales of the leaders. But remember, it is player-character knowledge!

But because Japanistan has seen the willingness of the world to take out nations they feel are "misbehaving" (ie, Shepistan) they are playing things a bit more carefully and subtly. OPen attempts to "puppet-ize" a nation would be carefully avoided so as to not antagonize potential allies or the "Imperialist-Colonialist Axis".
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

It comes at a delicate time as well. It might be smart for me not to have the vote on San Dorado's proposal right about now....

By the way, I propose we slow down game-time until we finally conclude the conference at Cascadia. Since in-game, that conference WON'T take months to finish.

Unless you backdate the hell out of that riot, the proposal was made some weeks ago. Even accounting for staff studies and such, you probably can't delay it much longer. Well you could, but I imagine the parliment would get restless.

And speaking of backdating the hell out of things, I just kicked off Day Two of the summit! :)

Nobody watches Japanistani television anyway. They only watch it for the animus and the ridiculous game shows where people are forced to eat live squid.
