In a similar vein to Connor's ore hauler, Marvel comics had the acanti, a sort of space whale systematically hunted down, lobotmized, and turned into living city-ships by the Brood.

I don't know, I kind of like the look of the thing. I think it could probably have been put in the "just plain beautiful ships" thread without drawing all that much negative comment.

I forgot which book it was from, but there was one where they left earth as it was dying with chilled baby colonists, but the ship it's self was a long tube, with a massive bucky ice formation on one end, and ram scoups around it, so as friction melts the geodasic ice formation it's turned into fuel for the ship's reactors, and shielding against what's out there.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned The Yamato from Space Battleship Yamato yet.

It was ugly. It was incredibly impractical (bottom defences? we don't need no damn bottom defences). But damn, when you saw it take flight or fire the Wave Motion Cannon ... it was beautiful.

The Daedalus spacecraft is hardly conventionally pretty, but I kind of like the design and I think these are some nice pics:

Oddly, somebody put this is beautiful ships, but Battlefleet Gothic, everything but the Eldar.

The Goa'uld mothership was pretty intimidating the first 2 or 3 times we saw it. Afterwards, not so much.

The TIE Interceptor. Even though it's a basic design, it shows you don't need racing stripes or decals to have the look of a deadly, nimble predator.

TCS Concordia certainly is one of my favorites.
I can't believe people remember Nexus. I had a thing about how cool and utilitarian the Longsword class looked.

How about the Kiith Somtaww Kuun-Lan?

Or perhaps the ship from Avatar? I admit a horrific nerd moment when I went 'hey! That's a reasonably plausable A/M Beamcore Valkyrie-type Beanstalk! Wait, are those laser push-sails?!

Holy crap! Thank you Connor, I saw parts of that movie back when I was about twelve, but didn't know what it was called, and nobody else had any idea what I was talking about, I was begining to think I had dreamt or halucinated it.

Yay, I'm not insane!

I've got a glamor shot of a Lunar class as one of my desktops. It's gorgeous.
