The Sin City Thread (spoiler-free)

Post by fgalkin »

EDIT: ok, ok, that was a joke. I don't know if the movie sucks or not, because I haven't seen it.

Sin City sucks. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I have to warn you not to watch this stinking piece of turd.

Well, I've just came back from watching the 4:30 PM showing of Sin City. I have 3 words to say about it: Fuck You Rodriguez.

First of all, their so-famed "noir" style DOESN't WORK. After a while, it just gets boring and actually begins to hurt my eyes.

Secondly, the violence seems to be a rip-off Kill Bill (with fountains of blood and all.) Except that it doesn't work in "noir" and looks like shit (literally).

Thirdly, and I don't know if it's the fault of the movie or the comics, but the characters seem to be carbon copies of one another. Completely dull and uninteresting.

Fourthly and finally, the much-vaunted dialogue scene, directed by Tarrantino SUCKS. Completely different from his usual style, and totally crap.

I. WANT. MY. $10. BACK.

Have a very nice day.

When the beginning started it was so stereotyped it seemed like those comedy shows spoofing the noir style. Showing the cheese but not the good of the style. And kept on like that until 1/3 or 1/2.

So far I've only read "A Dame to Kill For" (not in the movie). I agree with the character copying with fgalkin. Since Marv and Dwight were quite different in that comic I think its the director's fault.

It cost me 6$ but I missed my dinner at the school cafe so I'm eating instant noodles now.

I want my dinner back.

You know, I could kind of tell by the ads that it was sort of goofy...

You know, it was sort of cartoon-ized but damn if I didn't like it. It was good old fashioned noir-esqe camp. Plenty of good old fashioned ultra-violence with a story sensibility that I rather liked.

I really liked it and if the visual style ocassionally missed it also made up for it with some really great visuals as well. It was clever and something new. It's not for everyone but I for one liked that part of it.

What stormbringer said. I had quite a good time when I went to see it.. though there were a couple moments that had every guy in the theater wincing (you can probably guess which ones SB)

I guess there's no accounting for taste, which still wouldn't explain why you don't have any, fgalkin. :P

Oh yeah, come to think of it there were several parts of it that had every guy wincing. And oddly enough a few sympathetic winces from the ladies.

I liked it a lot, and so did pretty much everybody in the theatre (which was packed). I liked it so much, in fact, that I would have been willing to sit through twice as much of it, if it would've meant being able to see a Dame to Kill For and maybe Hell and Back on screen.

Yeah I think they should've done Dame to Kill For. Would've made the Big Fat Kill story more solid.

I'll be going to a midnight showing in the next half hour or so. I shall then pass judgment.

This movie is absolutely beautiful. It's also given me the great pleasure of being able to say I've witnessed someone's nuts being ripped off.

It was fantastic. Honestly, I thought Spider-Man 2 was going to be the standard for comic book adaptations for years to come, and then Robert Rodriguez goes and make this wonderful, brilliant film.

I was totally impressed with it. Only Brittany Murphy's performance detracted, but I didnt expet anything great out of her.

The cast was perfect, even the few lines of dialogue that I thought were out of place still fit the scene, and goddamn, Jessica Alba is the hottest girl out there.

fgalkin, you're a sick, sick man. I salute you for it.

I thought it was done in a very, for lack of a better word, caring way by the director. He really managed to grasp the black humor aspect of it all, and that's what I was going there for so I wasn't dissapointed at all.
