Hm... Just got my ass kicked by 4 heavy arties, so I see your point, but it's so FUN to play my SU-26. I guess because then I am the angel of death. I have 450 battles with it and 16 top guns, record of 9 kills... Hm, did I just prove you right, Enigma?

I don't play my GwPanther much simply because of the flat arc it has. It can sometimes be very difficult to hit anything at all. At low tier, it's quite common that I'm the only arty, and one arty on each side is fine. Two too, but 3 and more is too much. When there is 4-5 arties on each side, it's no fun at all for the others, I agree to that, and I play mostly tanks.

I take my GwPanther out maybe once a week, but my SU-26 is one of my steady mates. When I log on, I need a win with my SU-26, BT-2 and T18. Oh, man! T18 with 75mm howitzer is a monster to be feared more than SU-26... I have 500 battles with it and 35 top guns. Seal clubbing can be so fun. :P

BTW: I've heard rumors that there soon will be tier 10 arty in the game. Not really new, more gruesome things, but existing high tier arty will be pushed 2 tiers up and some new arty will come to fill in the gaps. Hopefully, that will be a good solution.

Nice battle, Vendetta, you almost got that top gun. I sometimes think that MM groups arties together at high tier, so that you get some matches with 4-5 arties on each side, then some with none.

I don't understand their logic with that at all. All it will do is spread them out between all the high tiers, so there'll be big arty crapping up 8, 9, and 10 instead of just ten, and by adding new arty to the the game they ensure even more people will be playing them to try them out and unlock the new ones. Were I in charge of WG, I'd just remove them from the game entirely. It was a bad idea to begin with and it's only gotten worse. Compensate players for all xp and creds spent on arty and allow free crew retraining to something else.

Low tier artillery is literally the worst thing with the possible exception of top tier arty. It can permatrack and oneshot tanks pretty easily and neither of those are fun or fair to have flying at you every ten or so seconds.

Also, the logic makes pretty decent sense because the sheer concentrations are part of what makes tier ten so bad to play, and there's no real draw to unlock the new ones because anyone who's going down that line has them anyway and nobody's going to go ooh I want to go down this line because there are tanks in the middle. That and the fact that they're apparently going to be seriously rebalancing artillery at the same time.

I dunno, mid tier arty is p. bad as well.

8.6 will see the introduction of new arty types, and there are pictures on the interwebs, expanding the trees to tier 10. It is also, apparently, going to see a complete rebalance of all arty so that they're tier appropriate in their own tiers. (For instance, tier 5 arty is at the moment matched at 7+).

Also, 7x42 mode (how the ESL world of tanks tournaments are played, 7v7 companies) will be implemented as a new mode and heavily armoured tanks will be globally buffed by a slight rework of armour mechanics to make them more attractive to play.

(They've also confirmed that they're working on backgrounding the Japanese tech tree now, but nothing's been modelled yet, the first Japanese patch will have about 19 new tanks in.)

Mid tier arty is pretty bad but it won't totally ruin your round in a single shot the way low or top tier arty can.

That depends entirely on what what you're driving. I've been oneshot in my M4 by a rocket camping shitbag, same goes in my M7. Though with the latter, if the shell lands in the same time zone, you get detracked. God help you if you're in a T1 or T14, because a single arty strike will kill half your crew, blow off both tracks, jam your turret, take out your gun, destroy your engine and blow your ammo rack. And if that doesn't kill you, the follow up round, landing right about the same time you're mobile again, will.

But it's totally an enhancing part of the game. Prevents camping, don't ya' know.

I've been saying since day one that artillery is harder on the lower and mid tiers than the higher ones. Namely because those with tier 9's and 10's will likely stick it out. When new players in a tier 4 can't move twenty feet before getting turned inside out by ortillery (or HEAT spewing shitheads in 105 armed M4's and Pz4', but thats another topic) they won't stick it out, they'll leave.

But fuck the scrub newbs. Its all about the clan wars.

I saw the light wrt arty about the time I stopped newb-WR-denying and just sold mine.

I still have a problem with giving scout matchmaking to non scout-line tanks; especially since there is no warning anywhere in the game itself. My first 3 tier 4's were the Pz38nA, A-20 and, just to rub salt in the wound, the M3 Lee. In retrospect I know that all of those, with the possible exception of the A-20, are actually decent when driven well; but people that have just started and have the 30 or so battles it takes to get into one just do not know what to do with them.

Laan, you're halfway making my point. Midtier tanks don't fight mid tier artillery. Mid tier arty is what shows up in tier 8 matches. Your M4 (incidentally if you run gold derp in that you deserve literally everything that happens to you) is still facing broke as hell low tier stuff. Tier 8 tanks can at least take a tier 5 or 6 arty shell without ten crits like happens to tens or just popping like anything five or down.

You'd think that. Back when I had an IS-8 it was regularly penned for 1,000 damage by tier 5 arty.

But then again, IS-8 is too poorly armored to be a propper heavy and is more of a bastard child of a heavy and a medium. When I play IS-8, I don't trust it's armor at all.

I guess you've been kinda unlucky, because when I play GwPanther, a tier 6, I rarely do 1000 dmg, more like 300-400 per shot (if I hit at all), but then again, I'm not very good with higher tier arty, maybe because I don't play it that often.

Man, when the ELC works...it works

Victory!
Battle: Fisherman's Bay Monday, May 06, 2013 3:42:20 PM
Vehicle: ELC AMX
Experience received: 1,148 (x2 for the first victory each day)
Credits received: 14,040
Battle Achievements: Reaper

I did over 2k damage in the second battle. I love this little monster. Also, funnily enough, we had three ELC's on our side in that match. I suggested a wolf-pack...they agreed, but both got killed against the E2 that I killed. They asked where I was, and I just said 'sniping him'. Which they made for a nice distraction really.

I drive an FCM and an AC '48, believe you me I know all about tier 8s getting wrecked by arty. But it's not the default the way it is with a lot of low and top tier stuff.

Once again, one shotted by an arty three tiers lower than me...

In my M41 I was rarely lucky enough to actually land a tank-smashing shot on any tier 8, except once, where I hit a Tiger II in the engine block. In retrospect this was likely because instead of searching for vulnerable targets, I looked for tanks engaged with my team that were too hard for them to take down. For example, I saw an IS-6 engaged with some tier 6s and it had its own tier 6 escorts in one match, so I figured I'd even the playing field for that flank. That was my idea of the function of artillery, at least. Fire support where it is needed but no one else can get there in time. I did this especially because a lot of the time while in a tight spot the arty on my team was busy trying to take out easy targets or wasting their shots on tanks already near death.

Though shortly before I sold it I took to counter-battery then TD mode, as I now do in my M37.

Stop driving in straight lines.

I have anecdotes too. 50% of my shots don't land in the aiming circle, frontal armor reduces 1000+ potential points of damage down to <200, and that's only if it doesn't just bounce off said armor. I carried my team by doing 5000+ damage and killing 5 tanks but my team still managed to lose.

Is there some hidden accuracy fucking mechanic nobody tells you about? Like being on a slight incline means your aim circle is now meaningless? In my grille I tested it and of the 40 shots I made, 32 landed outside my circle. Literally never does the grille do over 200 damage when it hits, unless its on something with no armour at point of contact, at which point the target is vaporised. On the other hand whenever my artillery tank has been overrun, it always manges to direct fire and one hit whatever heavy comes first, in an absurd reversal.

I had a match like that in my M37. Whole game, no matter how well I aimed, always fucking missed, entirely. No splash even. Then an A-20 starts capping (this is on Siegfried Line) the base, running in a circle around it. All our guys there can't hit him, and they die as I turn my hull and set my sights on the area. 5 points left to cap, he's the only one on it, still running. I don't even wait, my circle is flared out all the way. I fire. Boom, dead from full in an extremely luck blind shot. Our team had no one there, so I saved the match.

Didn't hit shit for the rest of the game, though.

You know, Vendetta. I have to give you this: I played my IS-3 and was stopping two Pershings at a choke point. Then heavy arty hit me and took out 1362hp. The 138hp I had left was no match for the Pershings. Not funny at all. I think I jinxed it. There is however, something I hate with passion. Anything above tier III with autoloader. Just had a battle with my IS-8 and dared to move out of cover to help a team mate in distress. I got instakilled by a hidden AMX-50 Foch (155). Enemy had 3 of them, we had none but heavy tanks. Interestingly, we still won, but without much of my help.

I can be death from above with my SU-26, but anything higher... It feels like this:

(Yeah, I guess I'm ranting a bit. They're perfectly fine as long as they are on my team.)

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2

Autoloaders are powerful, but they need to be close to use their full burst, because their aim doesn't reset all the way between shots and if you let it then you're losing one of the biggest advantages of the autoloader. So, you're in your autoloader and you've used up your drum (and some of it probably donked) and, well, shit because you're right next to a very angry tank and he's got 40+ seconds to shoot at you before you can do anything again.

French stuff tends to have other issues as well, no armour, low HP (mega low for their TDs), large accuracy penalty on the move, poor traverse on TDs...

That said, the T-57 Heavy could do with having its burst slowed down, the equivalent french heavies have a 3 second load in the drum not a 2 second load and faster reload.

I'm convinced there is a random dice roll at the beginning of the match when you play arty, that determines how accurate you are for the rest of the match. Some matches I am absolutely on fire, hitting ridiculous shots, through windows, on the run, 360 noscope bullshit. Other matches I literally cannot hit anything no matter how carefully I line up the shot.

Feels like that in the Priest most of the time.

That may just be the overall lack of splash damage requiring a darn near direct hit to do anything though...

There is an event code PARADE that is good until the 18th. It's not working currently, but it should be soon.
