The lack of effort to look presentable for the sake of his girlfriend is a big douchebag marker. A supportive boyfriend would put on pants and a button down shirt and clean up the beard a little bit. Even if she said she’s cool with him looking like a skateboarder who would use a sign and a dog to get cigarette money from strangers, or the interviewer specifically asked him not to dress up.

Either he’s a prick who doesn’t care, or he’s too stupid to realize why that matters. The two possibilities result in different kinds of douchebag, but they’re both douchebags. I make fun of his appearance in an important meeting because he chose that appearance knowing that he was going to an important meeting. This isn’t a fucking TMZ ambush. This is a relatively important interview (to his girlfriend, not to him) that was set up in advance. That he chose to attend looking like he wants to tell you how Bonnaroo changed his life over PBRs at a dive bar then commute home on a unicycle.

I’m not making fun of him for looking like a crust punk who just got his sixty day chip from narcotics anonymous in his normal life (ok, I am a little, but I wouldn’t be pushing on this if it was a TMZ ambush interview). I’m making fun of him for choosing to look like he regularly waxes poetic about his wish that he had been around to follow the Dead when Jerry Garcia was still alive at the career equivalent for his girlfriend of meeting her parents.
I had a Bill Maher quote here. But fuck him for his white privelegy "joke".

All the rest? Too long.

Wow, you're a bigoted ass. Thinking that politician's spouses are 'douchebags' if they don't live up to your personal standards of appearance is a whole lot worse than wearing shorts or having gasp facial hair.

Have you considered the possibility that his appearance was actually a deliberate decision by both him and AOC to make him seem more real and relatable to the young, hipster vote she has actively been courting with virtually every public decision she has made? This is something virtually every major American politician has done in some form during a campaign; even if it's not this specific look, it's still a concerted decision to appear "casual" to appeal to a specific demographic.

It really doesn't matter to me whether you think he's a douchebag or not. He probably is. But I think it's rather silly that you are drawing a line in the sand that the only possible reason for this to have happened is that he is an unsupportive boyfriend when there is a far more obvious and probable decision that fits the traditions of American politics just staring you in the face.

Well, you’ve managed to find the one circumstance where his sloppiness would reflect poorly on AOC’s value as a politician. Because if this was the reason, it would make her one of the politically dumbest motherfuckers ever to fall assackwards into winning an election.

Why the fuck would a woman who won her seat almost entirely by cultivating an image as Socialist Alex From The Block against an old white guy think it was wise to intentionally appeal to the white gentrifiers within less than six months after taking office? Ocasio-Cortez has courted a fan-base of white gentrifier activist types nationwide, but they haven’t really invaded her district in force yet. Trying to be the white gentrifier candidate in her district at this moment would be such a fucking stupid idea that I wonder how much you actually know about her district or her path to victory for even bringing up the notion.

I suspect the fact that she’s kept this guy out of the spotlight for so long has to do with her recognizing that he’s a political liability in her district because her constituents dislike him grilling kimchi and spinning poi in his front yard at 3am.

So uh, what is your proof that he's a 'gentrifier' or that he does any of those things? Because I haven't seen anything about what he does for a living or what his finances are like.

I'm just going to zero in on this part of your post instead of responding to the rest of your whining. This is my entire point. AOC has been actively courting this demographic with basically every major public decision she has made. I really don't care about all the other stupid shit you're saying, because this statement was my only point, which you clearly agree with.

But this does reflect poorly on AOC as a socialist.
Lì ci sono chiese, macerie, moschee e questure, lì frontiere, prezzi inaccessibile e freddure
Lì paludi, minacce, cecchini coi fucili, documenti, file notturne e clandestini
Qui incontri, lotte, passi sincronizzati, colori, capannelli non autorizzati,
Uccelli migratori, reti, informazioni, piazze di Tutti i like pazze di passioni...

...La tranquillità è importante ma la libertà è tutto!

I'll be the first to admit I adore this woman, and not just because I think she's drop-dead gorgeous! :luv:

Our politicians in the UK could learn a lot from her.

She fairly consistently takes bold positions and she scares Republicans. That puts her ahead of most of the Democrats in office. She's what the party needs- a shot of adrenaline to shake it out of its torpor in a moment of crisis.
