Kevlar is good stuff. I remember similar stories from Panama, when US forces first used kevlar helmets.

The Kevlar liner that American troops began using for their helmets in Vietnam was accredited with reducing battlefield casualties by as much as 8%.

God bless Kelver. The helmets are lighter and tougher because of it. Only downside is they can't use the things for cooking now like they used to in WW2

well if the helmet had a thin inner or outer removable metal part it might work for cooking as well. i think that metal would only add to its strength and work to slow the bullet further as well as to spread the force out over a larger surface area because its rigid.

Kevlar: used for bulletproof vests, helmets, and snare drum heads :D .

Cooking with your helmet was a bad idea when it was metal.
Heating up metal like that affects it's strength, degrading it severely.
In other word, using it as a cooking pot, turns it into a cooking pot! No longer considered armor. (Strengthwise)
Besides, the new kevlar helmets are MUCH more comfortable to sit on.

Depends on which side you used. It was more comfortable for me to use it upside down...

That's awesome. Wonder if he gets to go back home now.

Kevlar is all over the motorcycle industry. Tons of shit I look up has kevlar. Most notably the brake pads we sell from EBC.

When I went through Basic Training in 87, we were still using steel pots. What I liked about them was that you could take a field bath out of them -- can't do that with kevlar helmets...
