More "outreach" from the Republican Party in North Carolina

Post by SystemError »

They're reaching out - to choke minority groups down.

WASHINGTON North Carolina’s Latino advocates are voicing alarm following the governor’s decision to eliminate the state’s office for Latino affairs.

The closing of the Office of Hispanic/Latino affairs was sudden and caught many by surprise. The move appears to have exacerbated the already tense relationship between Republican Gov. Pat McCrory and the Latino community, including criticism over a driver’s license plan for young immigrants.

Advocates say it sends a message that McCrory and Raleigh conservatives are less concerned with the needs of the Latino community. Paradoxically, it comes at a time when issues of deep concern, such as immigration, are at the political forefront.
Also, this past week, McCrory made an interesting appointment to the State Board of Eduction. His choice, Buddy Collins, has a notably anti-LGBT record.
One of North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory's (R) nominees for the State Board of Education has a long history of opposing anti-bullying measures aimed at protecting LGBT students, and gay rights advocates are worried about the implications if he is confirmed.

A. L. "Buddy" Collins is an attorney and a longtime member of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School Board of Education. He has clashed with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) over the years surrounding the group's efforts to stop bullying on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

"Buddy Collins has always been a retrograde voice, inimical to the interests of youth, on the school board," said GLSEN Executive Director Eliza Byard. "He has directly tried to block efforts to fully understand [students'] experiences in the service of making things better in schools in his district."

In a similar note, we recently have ""one of the party's most senior members of Congress."" calling Latino's "Wetbacks"
"My father had a ranch. We used to hire 50 or 60 wetbacks and — to pick tomatoes," Young said. "You know, it takes two people to pick the same tomatoes now. It's all done by machine."
Truly a party of inclusion!

Although, in Young's defense, conservatives are now paying the dark-skinned workers.

I wonder, does he understand that the way he phrased it was like saying "mah pa had a buncha niggers on the farm"?
