Okay I was thinking if you were to obtain say a Star destroyer or a tng enterprise ship which ship is the most reliable?
Frequently on star trek there is always a little glitch or malfunction in the computer systems that goes bad. Or the reactor core goes unstable. Certainly if one appeared in teh sky above and someone was lucky enough to be the sole captain aboard he woudln't be the captain for long as that ship would break in a few years.
But in star wars you never hear about ship mal functions as often. Perhaps with teh thousands of years of refinement they are significantly more reliable. But i don't recall you could operate a star destroyer by yourself. you requrie a entire crew. Unlike the enterprise which you can just tell the computer verbally what do do.

Wow, what an original topic. This'll certainly go well.

This has been done to death. Keep in mind that Invisible Hand was actually ripped in half and Anakin managed to land the front half, using bridge systems and controls that were still miraculously functional.

To me the most important part of this is what do you mean by "obtain"? (my friends and I used to play a game where you "could" steal anything from any live action movie or TV show)
If I am "obtaining" a ship I would choose a Federation ship, most likely, because the computers and systems are just too user friendly. Anything I want to do I just have to ask the computer how to do it, and it auto-translates everything for me. The down side to federation tech is that it is very dangerous to operate (ex: antimatter and EPS), still between just being able to look at "my ship" and being able to use it I would choose use it.
If I already know how to operation and "repair" then no contest ISD

There's a great difference between potential and developed power. The one is clearly visible and can be awe-inspiring. The other may take a demigod to recognize.

Re: Reliability of starships
It is possible to get this level of automation in Star Wars. The Trade Federation battleships had a minute (organic) crew for their size and there are plenty of examples of droid-controlled and droid-crewed ships in the EU. It just isn't standard practice to have this level of automation on GE and Republic ships - likely because it's a pointless expensive security risk. In fact you're probably better off with this in the long run, because at least SW droids can maintain and repair the ship for you, whereas ST stuff will eventually break down and when it does you're screwed without an engineering crew (less of a problem on say the Raven as opposed to the Ent-D but still, if it breaks you won't be able to fix it).Kythnos wrote:If I am "obtaining" a ship I would choose a Federation ship, most likely, because the computers and systems are just too user friendly. Just locking with this thought.
How many times in SW movies does a fucking ship blow up because someone jostled the engine core?
