Analysis of Nemesis?

Post by Butterbean569 »

Ya I'm a noob on this board ;)

I was just wondering if Mike was going to do an analysis of Nemesis sometime soon. I'd love to read what he says about it.

By the way I've always liked both Star Wars and Star Trek, and before I went to his site I always thought that Trek was superior. Wow, that's just wrong. I don't see how people say that he's making stuff up and being unscientific...it sure seems like he's doing a pretty good job with what he's given on screen. Anyway just wanted to chime in and say that you've convinced me.

P.S. To all those trek supporters that think I'm "another brainwashed sd.net guy"....I'd love to read your arguements and see if they change my mind. I have no reason to prefer one over the other (actually I'd probably rather see Trek win!) so I like to think of myself as fairly objective. That being said, I haven't seen very many good arguements from the trek side at all, and I've been to many websites (including trek-supporting ones). I'd love to see what ya got.

Hello and welcom to SD.net, enjoy your stay and stay clear of the pokers.

Oh and perhaps this should go to the Pure Star Trek forum?

P.S. Mike has already said that he'll wait for it to come to video first before he does any kind of analysis.

As a father of two, it's hard for me to get out to the theatre and I'm not going to use up one of those opportunities just to see Nemesis. So, I'm waiting to see it on video. Considering its box-office performance, I figure that ought to be in another month :)

Mike has not yet seen "Nemesis." He plans to write an analysis of it when it comes out on DVD. Until then, there are many other users who have reviewed and analysed elements of "Nemesis," or the film as a whole. If you use the "Search" function at the top right of your screen, you will be able to access them pretty quickly.

BTW, I'll leave a shadow thread so you can still find it, but this really does belong in the "Pure Star Trek" forum, so I'm moving it there.

haha ok

I thought it would be good in the SW vs. ST forum because it could be used to prove that SW would win (even more evidence lol) but I guess it would be better in the Pure Trek forum

SW v. ST is more for comparing a specific situation. It's pretty hard to just take an episode or a movie and say, "This is why Star Trek sucks," or "This is why Star Trek tech kicks ass." Most movies and episodes in both universes present a mixed bag, and NO movie or episode presents enough information to conclusively demonstrate that one side or the other has an advantage overall--and many of them don't even present enough evidence to determine comparative advantages in any areas.

The best thing to do to determine for yourself is to go over to the main site.

Mike's arguments are generally considered the standard by which other arguments are judged, and are very well thought out and explained. I think it'll have what you're looking for.

Other then that, not many people have done indepth analysis of the movie.

One other advantage of waiting for the DVD is that it's really much easier to analyze something when you can stop, pause, repeat a scene a few times, freeze-frame, frame-advance, etc.

Agreed. I am really looking forward to the next DVD. With the current trend of putting all sorts of extra footage into movies, I have hopes for new goodies in Nemesis.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the DVD. It was tough for me to keep track of things during the final battle, because I was looking to try and find several things at once and consequently missed almost all of them.

Just out of curiosity, how much of the movie was cut out of the movie? I've heard reports of as many as an hour and a half, and as little as fifteen minutes.

Alyeska aren't you afraid that they're going to pull what they did with the other ST films and put out a no frills DVD, wait a year or two then put out a special edition DVD??? Grrrrrrr THAT sucks. The special editions are AWESOME but there's NO REASON other than naked greed to put out a no frills DVD at this point. I think that LOTR shows just what you can do with DVDs now and raises the bar on my expectations for special features and I WILL NOT buy a DVD unless it has a commentary track, I mean whats the point right?

Sorry about the rant.

With the double dips of the earlier Star Treks raising the expectations of Trek fans, I'm thinking that the Nemesis disc will probably be pretty good. Unless of course, because of the not so stellar performance in theaters affects the money spent on the disc.

I'm afraid that they will (I don't speak for Alyeska, but what the hell?), but I'm pretty sure they realize that they'll have to do something more to get "Nemesis" to sell well in DVD format.

Agreed. And I can wait for the special edition DVD. With how big this is for Trek and the very real need to get every penny they can, I don't doubt they will wait upwards of 6 months after the first DVD release before comming out with their special eddition DVD.
