So, my grandfather was in the US Navy just after the war ended, and he served on a troopship that brought troops home from the Pacific. He said that one day they showed up with a bin of bayonets and rifles and said that if you wanted a souvenir, take one. And my grandfather took a bayonet, which my dad dug up from the basement today so I could look at it. And here it is:

Image quality is bad because I used my phone to take the pictures, sorry about that.

Pretty cool, eh?

Nope, it's a manufacturing stamp for a company under the supervision of Kokura arsenal. There's a whole page on the markings found on Japanese equipment, pretty interesting stuff: http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/japanese_markings.html

So... Unknown company under Kokura supervision, but otherwise a common hook quillon with a flat sided 'bird head' pommel. Not bad :)
