Bean, if the cat is male, I suggest naming it Bismarck. Or Otto.
Bismarck jumped to the top of my list along with one or two suggested elsewhere

I, for one, welcome your new feline overlord! It won't be long before s/he has you properly trained to dish out food and open doors etc...
Gender doesn't matter when you name a cat, my friend has a cat called Stan, Stan arrived with her litter of kittens...
Your new overlord looks like a cat I had who was called Shadow, or Sade (shar-day) for short. Not that she ever answered to it you understand...

May I suggest "Ashes"? fitting, for obvious reasons, yet also not...common.

A beautiful cat, congratulations!
How about Richelieu ? It's not black, so I won't suggest Vader or Palapatine

looks a bit like a russian blue, we had one a few years back that we simply named Blue. one of her great however-many grandchildern had such a look about him that we named him 'The Don'.
however, i would suggest Boris or Natasha depending on gender.

Now I'm of course required to suggest names that have a meaning in finnish and can be pronounced by a non speaker. So far I've been thinking Sumu, Usva, Savu or quite possibly Noki after the color. Sumu = Fog which has been suggested but in german, Usva = Mist, Savu = Smoke and Noki = Coal dust.

I'd like to add one suggestion that is totally unpronounceable to non-Finnish speakers and wouldn't even be that good of a name, most likely: käkkärämänty.

You really must hate cats for suggesting that. Now slap yourself for coming up with the worst pet name ever.

When I was about 6, my 4 year old sister got a cat. When asked what we should name it, she immediately replied, "DOG", pronounced "DeeOHjee". Just a suggestion...

Speaking of winning the thread the cat has been named
Say hello to Ash
There is some debate if Ash is being named after
This Ash
or that Ash
Which is the better reference? You be the judge of that.
