Re: Ship immersed in the crown of a star ???

Well, there you go.

(I assume this is not a necro)

Frankly I think one shouldn't really overestimate this kind of thing in terms of expectations at least.

(Ps: fwiw, op seems to know practically nothing about the topic anyways so probably that is why the question is somewhat confusing/stilted)

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

Lol just some figurative language to emphasize a (grim)darkly hilarious scenario.

Although in retrospect I probably shouldn't be praising the IoM for this. Personally I dislike both ST and W40K, so I wouldn't want to be biased.

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

At risk of possibly ""necro-ing"" (not sure how long is considered as such) I may as well begin with the preface that W40K is probably one of the most wanked and overestimated things in scifi, and in fact has many major flaws and shortcomings. Having said that, the IoM would stil...

Re: The Covenant (Halo) vs Imperial Warlords (Star wars legends)

The initial scenario is frankly already a concession of sorts to a certain side over the other  (but I digress) I suspect the initial scenario also gets some details about the Covenant wrong, since I don't think both the UNSC and Covenant combined even made up a large-ish fraction of the galaxy...

Re: On "versus" fanfics

Also, to address/clarify earlier points made on ""narrative balance"", I believe that, especially in terms of a crossover story, the key point is not necessarily to arbitrarily enforce ""balance"" but to set up the situation/develop the plot in such a way that...

Oh sure. Fwiw by the end of the ""main trilogy"" this is basically the case anyways, which is why I recommended that.

Re: Ship immersed in the crown of a star ???

Yeah but the ""advanced technology"" thing is something a large amount of scifi already has, as has already been pointed out. Point being, this is a very vague phrase, especially in scifi.

Re: Star Wars rpg campaign ideas?

I mean an easy fix is literally just to set it after (or perhaps even before) the ""big events"" so to speak. Or just in a different area or something. Also not exactly sure about your gaming table but in my experience I deal with people that have huge aversions to what they perc...

Re: Star Wars rpg campaign ideas?

I think this tip has some merit to it. However, I think a problem might arise in how players might feel they are being overshadowed by ""canon"" characters. A big source of possiblities is exploring settings that take place after the ""major events"" so to spe...

Re: Star Wars rpg campaign ideas?

Besides specific scenarios, any ideas for overarching settings? One idea I have is the New Republic commissioning fleets and organizations dedicated to exploration. A ""sub-setting"" so to speak for this might be set in areas conflicted over by Imperial remnants and assorted woul...

Re: Star Wars rpg campaign ideas?

In terms of rulesets, I was thinking about maybe using GURPS as a possible base. Having said that, I feel the setting is more important than rulesets at least in terms of plot and adventures.

Tbh I think Traveller is not a good rpg so I wouldn't want to use it.

Re: Star Wars rpg campaign ideas?

Yeah that's the gist of it. The general idea of the setting is what I'm wondering about here. Fwiw I did not intend to come across as demanding anyone to do anything (though I'm somewhat unsure how it could have been interpreted that way). Having said that I have to say that ""SW fanfic&qu...

Star Wars rpg campaign ideas?

So recently I was thinking about scifi rpgs, and then I wondered about the possibilities present in a Star Wars rpg campaign. It seems to me many SW RPGs were focused on events such as the Rebellion and the GCW, which means their scope is somewhat limited. Having said this, I think playing/GMing an ...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

I think it would.

But frankly at this point I'm not really interested in continuing to argue a line of debate that has gotten incredibly off topic anyways. I hope I've made my views clear despite that.

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

Tbh I have no real attachment or like for SW or ST especially in recent years, and I have never liked W40K (in fact I decidedly hate it). Having said that, I still think the argument you use is rather dishonest. ""Disney Canon only"" who specified this? You realize by this interp...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

Going through case by case nitpicks from Disney canon shows made for spectacle and trying to extrapolate that to an entire faction frankly doesn't look very well. There's quite a bit of difference from a book outright stating that ""33% of these worlds will lack ANY kind of planetary defen...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

It's somewhat disingenuous to switch to a narrative claim about tropes as well as specifically use those two as examples considering they are practically the definition of ""insignificant planets"" (or in the latter case at least, was specifically meant to seem that way). This po...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

...damn. W40K might even be more deficient than I thought.

On the last point-- not really going to continue to argue this point other than note that without context that scene alone honestly tells very little.

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

Again, could we please get some quantification for "huge portions are isolated and without defense"? Not that I disagree, but this is rather vague. Also, for places with means for defense, could they beat a Borg attack? Also fwiw I think the point of that weapon comparison was to point out...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

Still honestly can't believe the amount of half assed plot points ST had sometimes. Also not going to continue engaging with a point that is frankly irrelevant. Fwiw I actually dislike W40K. ""Splendidly ill equipped to defend"" not that I actually think this is wrong but could y...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

Yeah but I know ST Voyager had even more retarded plots where space faring races were running around kidnapping humans for the sole purpose of slavery. And that specific scene has quite a bit more wonky things about it. Yeah but those aren't particularly relevant. Fwiw the last two are rather limite...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

Oh sure. Though fwiw I'm sure there are many more accounts of scarcity and poor logistics. Not to mention how the IoM has quite a few worlds that are really underdeveloped. Not a downplay or anything that's going to be overly relevant in this particular scenario, just a note. Yeah that scene is just...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

Great, now I'm wondering about a ST Prodigy crossover episode where the plucky crew of alien kids on board the USS Protostar happen across a raging battle between an IoM Lunar class cruiser and escorts and Starfleet forces. In true ST writer fashion, such an episode would probably involve the crew s...

Re: W40K Imperium of Man vs. Star Trek United Federation of Planets

Oh sure by no means am I saying everything the IoM has is fatally antiquated.

I'm not quite sure what you are implying with the RPG line.

What does the video show, for some reason it's not showing for me?
