Re: Kathleen Kennedy's management of the franchise
I used to buy or read any Star Wars novels I could get my hands on. As I got older I became more selective, but the EU authors were big enough that friends or family who knew little about Star Wars outside of the movies would gift me new EU books fairly regularly, simply by seeing them at the bookst...

Re: Can a TV be used as a desktop monitor?
They can, but you should adjust your setup accordingly. Some smaller TVs these days advertise dual functionality and work just fine as a monitor substitute, but if you're using a device advertised primarily as a TV then it probably won't work well as a desk top monitor, due to the viewing distance p...

Re: FALLOUT 76
See, it's kind of moot to me if the environments look good or if the side quests are well written if the game isn't interesting and functional enough that I want to actually go to those places and complete those quests. Which, as I confirmed when I tried F76 during the week it was free to play, F76 ...

Re: FALLOUT 76
The teaser stream worked pretty well for building hype in spite of the fact that there's no real reason to be hyped for a Beth product, especially given how mediocre Fallout 4 was. Other than that, basically everything for F76 has been fucked up from inception.

Re: Fantastical Sword Training
Oh, that's something I didn't think of. Would be much easier than my original idea, too. Very simple enchantment to pull that off. (I say even though I haven't really codified all this yet.) And it fits well with traditional training, serving to enhance the experience rather than supplant it. I don'...

Re: Fantastical Sword Training
The concept for these derived from existing capabilities of magic in the setting, applied in certain ways. I don't know if you saw the post, but I have shelved the idea on the basis that, given the existence of perfectly functional mundane methods of training that present little risk, these training...

Re: Fantastical Sword Training
I'd be worried that such magical training methods will be training students to avoid taking painful hits, even if they have to take fight ending instead, because the painful hits are less pleasant in training. Not the lesson you want to teach. I was puzzling over what to really do for lethal wounds...

Oh, they do inflict as much pain as any real wound would, and while it wouldn't be impossible to make them inflict more pain than a wound, I feel like that would be counterproductive on its own*. The numbness is part of simulating the consequence of the wound; not only does the wound hurt like a rea...

Fantastical Sword Training
I've been working on a fantasy story, and I've run into a question about training swordsmanship. I have read that some modern teachers start with blunt weapons for their students, and then move onto using sharps when their students are ready for them, and that there is historical evidence from treat...

Ghetto edit: Does Homelander need to breathe? If yes, then the Undersiders stand a chance at killing him, too.

Re: Wormverse Protectorate vs The 7 (The Boys)
The Undersiders don't really have a way of dealing with someone that is superman tier, even low superman tier, with a singular exception that only worked due to specific circumstances. Regent's actual power takes too long to use, anyway, so he wouldn't be particularly useful. Imp, Bitch, and Skitter...

I don't think they terraform them quite that quickly. The Genesis device was a little TOO fast and was interpreted as the ultimate weapon, 80 years later they were terraforning on the order of decades, according to the dialogue where they found the sparkly lights that started shooting lasers at Dat...

Re: Does space dock even make sense?
I feel like orbital habitats aren't nearly so useful to the Federation as they potentially are in real life. The Federation seems to terraform planets fairly routinely on human timescales, explicitly starting with worlds that have absolutely no life and no potential to develop life, and raising them...

Re: What do you want the force, and the Jedi to mean?
I consider the Force to be a reflection of life in the galaxy. A galaxy at peace is the balance that the force seeks, and it seeks this balance from the inherent desire of the vast majority of sapients for a peaceful, meaningful existence. This is the light side of the force: the essential altruism ...

Re: Does space dock even make sense?
The problem is that a uniform ring around the planet does not exert gravitational attraction due to shell theorem*, and by extension is not attracted by the planet either. Spinning it will not do anything to prevent this. *Shell theorem was first proven by Newton, but is easiest to explain with Gaus...

Re: Does space dock even make sense?
Large stations are one thing, a planetary ring is well beyond that. Halo-type ring stations that are set in a conventional orbit would only need to be strong enough to hold together if spun, but a rigid ring that is wrapped around a planet would have stability issues. Namely, it wouldn't be orbiting...

It's also possible that the ion cannons mounted on an ISD are meant for engaging ships of similar size- they may as well be lethal weaponry against a ship the size of the Falcon , while weapons meant for engaging fighters would more reliably damage to the point of disabling instead of outright destr...

Re: The Big Bang Theory ends after twelve seasons (spoilers).
I came home to my dad watching the final episode last night; he was doing so to say he'd seen it, which I found unusual for him, but whatever. It was the first time I'd ever seen the show for longer than five minutes. I avoided it because it always felt like one of those "Oh, we're not laughing...

Re: Weird, awesome, or just absurd gaming stories.
Here is the story of my first time playing Crusader Kings II, with the CK2 Plus mod. It's something of a ramble, in part due to the nature of the game itself. I hope some of you find it entertaining, at least. Myself and two friends (henceforth MX and Bubs) start in the mid 11th century (1060 IIRC) ...

Re: The Coming of the Superheros (RAR!)
Worm's sequel, Ward, started in 2017. Given the serial nature of it, if we're going by first appearance, Worm would filter in piecemeal a bit over the 3rd-5th. Ward would start on the 9th and keep going to the day that matches to the present, as new characters get introduced, up until it ends (proba...

Uh, dude, villains don't get brought in to this unless they play such an important role in the backstory of some hero that one cannot exist without the other, or unless they are reformed . The Endbringers don't sound like they are even being portrayed as anti-heroes, just plain villains. Heroes tur...

Re: The Coming of the Superheros (RAR!)
Basically, you have to go into the actual comics universes to find characters who can destroy planets because they rarely make it into adaptations because they are usually pure wank. Mogo is the only exception, because as GL characters go he's just plain cool, and people can accept that much power ...

Yes, but does he fall within the cap outlined in the OP? That's what I'm wondering: if heroes of that capability will show up at all, because I am not particularly familiar with the DCAU so the reference given in the OP doesn't mean much for me.

Are any of the heroes that will show up capable of destroying a planet? Or at least stripping the crust from one?
